국문 초록

본 논문은 한국의 교방 기생 문화와 일본의 게이샤 문화를 다각적으로 비교분석한다. 두 문화의 역사적 기원과 발전 과정, 예술인으로서의 수련 체계, 각 사회에서의 위상과 역할, 전통 예술의 계승과 창의성, 그리고 현대까지 이어지는 문화적 의의를 중심으로 고찰한다. 표면적 유사성에도 불구하고 교방과 게이샤 문화는 자국의 사회적·정치적 맥락 속에서 독특한 발전 경로를 보였다. 본 연구는 여성 예능인 문화로서 공유하는 공통 요소뿐만 아니라 두 전통 사이의 차이점을 규명한다. 또한 식민지 시기와 근대화 과정에서 교방 기생과 게이샤 문화가 경험한 변화와, 전통 예술 보존 및 자국의 현대 예술에미친 영향을 분석한다. 이를 통해 한국 교방 기생과 일본 게이샤의 예술적·문화적 유산에 대한 보다 균형 잡힌 이해를 제공하고, 한국과 일본의 전통 예술의 현대적 가치와 의미를 재조명한다.

영문 초록

This paper comparatively examines Korean Gyobang culture and Japanese Geisha traditions, focusing on their historical development, training methods, societal roles, artistic contributions and cultural legacies. Despite superficial similarities, these traditions evolved distinctively within their respective national contexts. The study highlights significant differences between these female entertainment cultures. It analyzes how both traditions adapted during periods of colonization and modernization, contributing to traditional arts preservation and national cultural identity. Through this comparative lens, the research provides balanced insights into the artistic legacies of Korean Gisaeng and Japanese Geisha, illuminating their significance in contemporary cultural contexts.
