백제인의 생사관 변화와 상장령 시론

국문 초록

고대 사회에서 왕은 곧 하늘이 내려준 사람이며, 국가의 존속은 통치자의 덕에 따라 결정된다고 생각하였다. 따라서 고대의 정치사회는 五禮를 활용하여 국가 질서와 왕권의 존엄성을 강조하였다. 특히 오례의 凶禮 중 喪葬儀禮는 단순한 장례 절차를 넘어, 당시 사회 신념과 관습, 정치적 권위를 반영하는 중요한 의식이었다. 또한 산 자의 죽음에 대한 관념과 사후 세계에 대한 인식을 ‘生死觀’이라 하며, 이는 국가 발전과 함께 다양한 양상으로 나타난다. 백제는 일찍부터 한강 유역을 점유하며, 주변으로부터 선진 문물과 사상을 받아들였고, 받아들인 종교, 사상의 확산에 따라 생사관이 변화하였다. 상장의례는 고대 왕실의 정치적 목적과도 연결되며, 이는 무덤을 조영하는 공간을 통해서 엿볼 수 있다. 한성기부터 생활 공간과 묘역이 분리되고, 사비기에 이르러 왕실과 귀족 묘역의 구분은 더욱 뚜렷해진다. 특히, 국가를 수호하는 三山의 범위 내에 왕실 묘역을 배치하고, 귀족 묘역을 삼산의 바깥에 두는 점이 주목된다. 이는 백제왕실이 공간 배치를 통해 왕권을 강화하고자 한 의도로 해석할 수 있다. 나아가 사비기에는 상장의례가 체계화되면서 ‘喪葬令’의 존재 가능성이 제기된다. 상장령은 상장의례와 관련된 법령으로, 의례 절차와 규정을 통제하는 기능을 하였다. 백제는 고대 동아시아 국가들과 교류하며 이러한 법령을 수용했을 가능성이 크며, 이를 통해 왕권의 신성성을 더욱 공고히 하고자 하였다. 본 연구는 백제인의 생사관과 상장의례를 시대별로 분석함으로써, 상장의례가 단순한 장례 절 차를 넘어 국가 체제와 왕권 강화의 수단으로 작용했음을 규명하였다. 이를 통해 백제 사회에서의 생사관과 상장의례의 의미를 새롭게 조명하고자 하였다.

영문 초록

Ancient people thought that the king was a man given by heaven, and that the existence of the country was determined by the virtue of the ruler. Therefore, ancient political society has shown the dignity of the state order and royal authority by using the Five Rites. Among the hyungrye(凶禮), the Funeral rituals important clues to understanding these cultures and social structures. The Funeral rituals that went beyond a simple procedure of listing, and overall reflected social beliefs, customs, and political authority at the time. In this paper, based on the existing research results, I tried to pay attention to the changes in the perspective of the Baekje people and the meaning of the Funeral rituals. The idea of the death of a living and the perception of the afterlife is called View of Life and Death. Baekje View of Life and Death was revealed in various ways in line with the development of the country. In addition, burial rituals are used for political purposes. From the Hanseong period, the space between the living and the dead is separated. During the Sabi period, the separation of the king and the noble tombs becomes clear. The royal tomb is protected inside the Tripartite mountain that protects the state. This aspect can be examined for the purpose of strengthening the royal authority through space separation. As Baekje developed, thoughts flowed in and the view of life and death changed. And gradually, burial rituals were systematized, and the possibility of a listing order was raised during the Sabi period. Mourning and Burial Statutes are laws and regulations for listing and refer to processing according to the rules after promulgation. During the Sabi period, it is possible to infer the listing ordinances of neighboring countries, and it is believed that Baekje also had Mourning and Burial Statutes according to the influence of Baekje in ancient East Asia.
