한국천주교여자수도회 사회복지 사도직 활동의 변천사 고찰

국문 초록

본 연구는 1888년 한국에 진출한 이래 가톨릭 사회복지의 가장 중요한 역할을 담당해 온 한국천주교여자수도회 사회복지 사도직 활동의 변천 과정을 역사적으로 고찰하였다. 이를 위해 51개 여자수도회가 참여한 가운데 각 수도회의 사회복지 사도직 활동을 시대 순으로 정리해보고 사회복지 사도직 활동이 세상과 교회에 어떻게 기여했는지 살펴보았다. 한국 근현대사에서 한국천주교여자수도회 사회복지 사도직 활동이 세상 안에서 가장 가난한 이들을 향한 하느님의 시선과 자비를 어떻게 증거했는지 알아보기 위해 130여 년의 역사를 네 시기로 나누어 고찰하였다. 연구 결과 첫째 시기, 발아기는 첫 한국 진출 및 가난한 이들에 대한 헌신(1880-1959), 둘째 시기, 성장기는 제도권의 영향과 산업화에 따른 사회복지 사도직의 변화(1960-1979), 셋째 시기, 전성기는 사회복지기관의 양적 팽창과 질적 변화(1980-2009), 마지막 시기, 침체 및 변혁기는 시대변화에 따른 침체와 성찰을 통한 쇄신과 도전(2010년 이후)이다. 한국천주교여자수도회는 사회복지 사도직을 하느님께 받은 은총을 이웃사랑으로 실천하는 삶으로 수도자들의 정체성과 카리스마를 확인하는 의미 있는 활동으로 여긴다. 이를 토대로 앞으로 한국천주교여자수도회 사회복지 사도직의 나아갈 방향을 모색하고 제언하였다.

영문 초록

This study aims to examine the historical development of the social welfare apostolate of Korean Catholic Women Religious communities, which have played an important role in Catholic social welfare since their arrival in Korea in 1888. For this purpose, the social welfare apostolate of 51 women's religious communities has been organized in chronological order, and their contributions to the world and the church have been examined. This study examines how the social welfare apostolate of Korean Catholic Women Religious has witnessed God's gaze and mercy towards the poorest in the world in the modern and contemporary history of Korea, dividing the 130-year history into five periods. The first period, germination period is the first entry into Korea and commitment to the poor (1880-1959); the second period, growth period is the impact of institutionalization and changes in social service due to industrialization (1960-1979); the third period, expansion period is the expansion of social welfare institutions in quantity and quality (1980-2009); and the last period, decline and transformation period is a period of renewal and challenge through decline and reflection due to changing times (2010 onwards). Consequently, Korean Catholic Women Religious consider social welfare apostolate as a meaningful activity that affirms their identity and charisma religious who live out the grace they have received from God in love for their neighbors. Based on the findings of the study, the future direction of the social welfare apostolate of women's religious community was explored and presented.
