국문 초록

한국과 몽골은 1990년 외교 관계를 수립하였으며, 2025년 현재 수교 35주년을 맞이하였다. 수교 이후 1993년 국내 대학에서 처음으로 몽골 관련 전공 학과가 개설되었고, 현재 두 개 대학에서 해당 전공을 운영 중이다. 그동안 몽골학을 포함한 다양한 분야에서 활발한 교류가 이루어졌으며, 이 과정에서 몽골어는 핵심적인 소통 수단으로 기능해왔다. 그러나 국내외 몽골학 분야에서 외국어로서의 몽골어 교육에 대한 연구는 여전히 미비한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구는 국내에서 가장 체계적이고 지속적으로 몽골어 교육을 실시하고 있는 두 대학을 중심으로, 대학 내 몽골어 교육의 현황과 과제를 살펴보고자 한다. 본 연구의 목적은 몽골 관련 전공 학과가 개설되어 있는 두 대학의 몽골어 교육 과정을 포괄적으로 분석하고, 학습자와 교수자의 교육 경험을 심층적으로 탐색하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 교육 과정 및 교과목에 대한 분석과 함께, 현상학적 연구 방법을 바탕으로 학습자 및 교수자를 대상으로 한 일대일 심층 인터뷰를 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 두 대학의 몽골어 수업은 다양한 주제와 내용을 포함하고 있으나, 교수법, 교육 자료, 교육 목표의 명확성 등 몇몇 측면에서는 개선이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 향후 대학 내 몽골어 교육의 질적 향상을 위한 다섯 가지 주요 제언을 제시한다.

영문 초록

Diplomatic relations between Korea and Mongolia were established in 1990, and 35 years have since passed. A Mongolia-related major was also introduced at a Korean university after the establishment of diplomatic relations, and today, two universities offer such programs. Over the years, exchanges and developments in various fields, including Mongolian studies, have flourished. The Mongolian language plays a pivotal role in facilitating these exchanges; however, research on Mongolian language education, especially as a foreign language, has received limited attention in Mongolian studies, both domestically and internationally. Therefore, this study aims to investigate Mongolian language education at universities in Korea, which represent the most structured and continuous Mongolian language programs in the country. The primary objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive description of Mongolian language education at two Korean universities offering Mongolia-related majors and to gain a deeper understanding of the experiences of both learners and faculty members involved in Mongolian language education. To achieve this, an analysis of the curriculum and courses of study was conducted, followed by in-depth one-on-one interviews, taking a phenomenological approach to explore the educational experiences of students and faculty. The findings from both the curriculum and interview analyses indicate that Mongolian language courses at these universities offer a wide range of content and subjects. Nevertheless, certain areas require further enhancement, particularly in terms of teaching methods, materials, and the primary focus of the language instruction. Based on these findings, the study outlines five key recommendations for the future development of Mongolian language education in university programs.
