국문 초록

본 연구는 아일랜드의 부활절봉기를 소재로 한 예이츠의 시 작품들을 신역사주의 비평을 적용하여 읽기를 목표로 한다. 연구자는 부활절 시편에 대한 기존연구를 토대로 하여 당시 아일랜드의 정치 현실에 대한 시인의 복합적, 다층적인 입장에 대한 분석을 모색한다. 예이츠의 부활절봉기 시편에 대한 기존의 선행연구는 대체적으로 문화 민족주의 운동, 사회적 이슈에 대한 계층 간의 갈등, 영국의 지배로부터 독립을 꾀하는 탈식민주의 등 세 가지 방향으로 전개되었다고 볼 수 있다. 이러한 세 가지 경향을 적극 수용하면서도 이들 연구들에서 당시 특정한 상황에 대한 구체적인 논의가 다소 부족한 점을 맥락 연구를 통해 보충하고자 한다. 이러한 보충을 위해 신역사주의 이론을 적극적으로 참조하여, 당대의 문화 상황을 통해 예이츠의 문화민족주의의 방향성을 이해하고 시의 감상을 확장하고자 한다. 그리고 당대의 역사적 문화적상황이 예이츠의 부활절 시들과 연관되고 수용되는 방식을 상세히 연구하고자 한다.

영문 초록

This study aims to read Yeats’s poems about the Easter Rising in Ireland by applying New Historicism. Based on existing research into them, I try to analyze the poet’s complex and multi-layered attitude toward the political situation in Ireland at the time. The previous studies of Yeats’s Easter poems generally focused on three issues: Cultural Nationalism, conflicts between classes on social issues, and independence movement from British rule. While actively accepting these three trends, I would like to make up some lack of detailed discussions on the specific situations through contextual research. In order to supplement this, I will actively refer to New Historicism to expand the interpretation of the poems and to better understand the direction of Yeats’s Cultural Nationalism. Overall, this research Choi focuses on how historical and cultural situations of the time could be related with his Easter Rising poems.
