국문 초록

본 연구는 전 세계적으로 급증하는 지정학적 리스크와 관련하여, 뉴스 기사 내의 긍정적, 혹은 부정적 지정학적 뉘앙스를 포착하는 지정학 감성 사전을 구축하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본 연구의 기여는 다음과 같다. 첫째, AI 기반으로 만든 지정학 감성사전과 기존 통념에 부합한 지정학 감성사전을 각각 구축하여 그 유효성을 비교하였고, AI 기반 지정학 감성사전이 보다 유효함을 밝혔다. 둘째, 지정학적 위험 사건을 담은 기사 수를 전체 기사 수로 나누어 지표화한 ‘지정학 위험 지수’보다 저자가 구축한 ‘지정학 감성지수’가 국내 대표주인 삼성전자 주식의 초과 수익률에 유의한 설명력이 있음을 밝히며, 지정학 감성사전 구축의 유효성을 간접적으로 증명했다. 셋째, 월별 감성지수가 대부분인 선행연구와 달리 일별 ‘지정학 감성지수’를 구축하여 빈도가 높은 주가 수익률 데이터와 빈도를 맞출 수 있었다.

영문 초록

This study aims to build a geopolitical sentiment dictionary that captures positive and negative geopolitical nuances in news, in the context of the growing geopolitical risks around the world. The significance of this study is as follows. First, we compared the validity of the AI-based geopolitical sentiment dictionary and the geopolitical sentiment dictionary based on conventional wisdom, and found that the AI-based geopolitical sentiment dictionary is more valid. Second, we found that the ‘geopolitical sentiment index' constructed by the author had a significant explanatory power for the excess return of Samsung Electronics, a representative Korean stock, compared to the ‘geopolitical risk index', which is indexed by dividing the number of articles containing geopolitical risk events by the total number of articles, indirectly proving the validity of the geopolitical sentiment dictionary. Third, unlike most previous studies that use monthly sentiment indices, we constructed a daily geopolitical sentiment index to match the frequency of stock return data.
