국문 초록

유이태(1652-1715)는 조선숙종때 산청일대에서 명의로 이름난 실존인물이며 숙종의 진료에도 직접참여한 이력을 가진 명의였고 그 사실은 실록과 승정원일기에 나와있다. 그의 행적은 한국에서 허준과 동의보감이 유명세를 타고 드라마와 소설에 허준의 스승으로 류의태라는 가상의 인물을 설정하면서부터 왜곡되기 시작했다. 이러한 왜곡은 사건의 발단이 된 노정우가 자신의 불찰이었다는 것을 시인했고, 드라마 허준의 연출을 맡았던 담당 프로듀서 역시 원작소설을 각색하는 과정에서 이 사실을 인지했지만 드라마에 반영하지 못했고, 그로 인해 파생된 사안들이 여전히 남아있다. 다만 그가 저술한 마진편에 대해서는 여전히 논란의 소지를 가지고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 유이태의 저작으로 알려진 마진편은 17세에서 18세기, 홍역이 맹위를 떨치고있을 때 지역사회에서 홍역을 치료하면서 남긴 중요한 기록이라는 점은 의심의 여지가 없다. 이것은 마진편의 저자가 유이태냐 아니냐의 논쟁보다 훨씬 중요한 가치를 갖는다.

영문 초록

Yoo Itae (1652-1715) was a renowned physician in the Sancheong area during the reign of King Sukjong, and he directly participated in the royal medical treatments, a fact documented in the 『Annals of King Sukjong』 and the 『Seungjeongwon Ilgi』 (Daily Records of the Royal Secretariat). His life and legacy began to be distorted in Korea after the fame of Heo Jun and 『Donguibogam』 grew, particularly with the creation of a fictional character, Ryu Uitae, as the teacher of Heo Jun in dramas and novels. This distortion was later acknowledged when Nho Jeong-woo (1918-2008), the source of the controversy, admitted his mistake. The producer responsible for the drama also recognized the issue during the process of adapting the original novel, but it was not reflected in the drama, and the resulting issues still persist. However, his authorship of 『Chapter of Measles』 remains a subject of debate. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that the text Majinbyeon, attributed to Yu Itaek, is a significant historical record from the 17th to 18th centuries, especially during the time when measles was rampant. It is an important document recording his treatment of measles in the local community. This matter holds far more value than the ongoing debate over whether Yu Itaek was the true author of 『Chapter of Measles』.
