국문 초록
Objectives: The aims of this study was to evaluate the ginsenoside content in the leaves of Gynostemma pentaphyllum (Cucurbitaceae), under different extraction conditions. As a dammarane triterpene-type derivative, G. pentaphyllum contains ginsenosides similar to those in ginseng, making it a potential source for herbs as functional food ingredients with anti-obesity effects.
Methods: Ginsenosides were isolated from G. pentaphyllum extracts using both water and ethanol at different concentrations and duration. Water extractions were performed at 100 ℃ for 10 and 24 hours. Solvent extractions used 50%, 70%, and 95% ethyl alcohol.
Ginsenoside contents were analyzed in each extract by high performance liquid chromatography.
Results: Water extraction of G. pentaphyllum leaves at 100 ℃ for 24 hours (GPW-24) showed the highest total content of ginsenoside. However, 10-hour extraction (GPW-10) was yielded the highest concentrations of ginsenoside Rh1 (0.886%) and Rc (0.566%).
In solvent extraction, total ginsenosides were highest in 95% ethanol, and were followed by 50%, 70%, and water. Ginsenoside Rc was abundant in both 95% (4.745%) and 50% ethanol (4.769%) extracts.
Conclusions: The optimal water extraction condition for obtaining functional ingredients is 10-hour extraction at 100 ℃. The best solvent extraction condition is using 95% ethanol, suggesting effective strategies for utilizing G. pentaphyllum in functional herbal ingredients with anti-obesity effects.
