다문화교육을 위한 문화 내용 연구 - 다문화예비학교와 다문화중점학교 교재 사례를 중심으로

국문 초록

이 연구는 다문화예비학교와 다문화중점학교에 초점을 두고 다문화 배경 초등학생을 대상으로 한 교재를 분석하는 데 그 목적을 두고 있다. 다문화교육은 국제이해교육과 다문화이해교육 그리고 이에 대한 새로운 대안으로서 문화다양성 교육의 접근에 따라 교육의 방향과 내용이 달라진다. 이 때 다문화예비학교와 다문화중점학교는 각각 다문화 이해 교육과 문화다양성교육의 측면에서 이해할 수 있다. 이를 전제로 하여 이 연구에서는 교재 내 소재와 주제, 학습 활동을 검토하여 문화 교재로서의 특성과 시사점을 살펴보았다. 다문화 예비학교와 다문화 중점학교의 교재를 분석한 결과 몇 가지 특성을 발견할 수 있었는데, 첫째 전자는 한국 문화 이해 교육에 초점을 두고 있는 반면, 후자는 문화 다양성 교육에 보다 중점을 두고 한국의 문화뿐만 아니라 세계 다른 나라의 문화를 교육 내용과 활동으로 다루고 있었다. 둘째 교재 내 소재, 주제에 있어서 전자가 한국 문화를 대상으로 한국 문화 이해와 문화 적응에 목적을 두고 있는 반면, 후자는 문화 다양성 교육의 접근에서 한국뿐 아니라 세계 다른 나라의 문화를 주제로 다루면서 비교, 대조하는 데 중점을 두고 있었다. 셋째 교재 내 학습 활동 측면에서는 전자가 한국 문화에 대한 지식 습득, 이해, 수용과 관련한 활동들이 주를 이루고 있었으며, 후자의 경우 교육부가 제시하고 있는 다문화교육 중점학교의 교육내용 요소를 틀로 삼아 문화 간 이해 및 소통, 문화다양성에서 더 나아가 반편견 및 반차별, 공동체의식, 세계시민의식에 중점을 두어 학습내용과 활동을 제시하고 있음을 알 수 있었다.

영문 초록

This study is aimed at analyzing multicultural education textbooks for elementary school students from multicultural backgrounds, focused on preparatory schools for students with immigrant backgrounds, multicultural education-oriented school. The direction and contents of multicultural education vary, depending on whether the education aims to foster international understanding, multicultural comprehension, or cultural diversity. While preparatory schools for students with immigrant backgrounds focus on multicultural comprehension education, multicultural education-oriented schools provide cultural diversity education. The study looked through multicultural learning activities and tasks as well as the topics and themes in textbooks in order to provide suggestions as cultural textbook. First, the textbooks used by students with immigrant backgrounds in preparatory schools focus on topics to help the students understand Korean culture; however, the textbooks used in multicultural education-oriented schools compare and contrast other countries’cultures as well as Korean culture. Second, the former is focused on education for acculturation, while the latter is oriented toward cultural diversity education. Third, the tasks and activities in the former are mostly related to the acquisition of knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of Korean culture; the latter stresses on intercultural understanding and communication, cultural diversity, eliminating bias and discrimination, community spirit, and global citizenship, using content prescribed by the Ministry of Education.
