과학사를 활용한 NOS(Nature of Science) 수업이 예비 생물교사의 과학 본성 인식에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

이 연구는 과학사를 활용한 NOS (Nature of science) 프로그램이 과학의 본성 에 대한 예비 생물교사의 인식에 미친 영향을 살펴보는 것이다. 이를 위해 문헌 분석을 토대로 다양한 과학사 사례를 선정하여 NOS 프로그램을 개발하였다. 개발된 NOS 프로그램은 18차시에 걸쳐 예비 생물교사 11명을 대상으로 적용하였다. 예비 생물교 사들에게 과학의 본성에 대한 인식을 알아보기 위한 사전검사와 사후검사를 실시하였 다. 사전검사와 사후검사 응답 결과는 분석틀에 따라 미숙한 관점과 성숙한 관점으로 분석되었다. 사전검사 분석 결과 예비 생물교사들은 과학의 경험적 본성, 과학적 방법 의 다양성, 과학 추론, 과학지식의 이론의존성, 과학의 사회문화적 내재성에 대해 대체 로 미숙한 관점을 나타냈다. 이에 비해 과학지식의 잠정성, 창의성과 상상력의 활용에 대해서는 모두 성숙한 관점을 보였다. 사후검사에서는 과학의 정의, 과학적 방법의 다양성, 과학 지식의 잠정성, 이론의존성 등에서 모두 성숙한 관점을 나타냈다. 특히 예비 생물교사들은 사후검사에서 구체적인 과학사 사례들을 과학의 본성과 관련지어 응답하였다. 이와 같은 결과는 본 연구에서 개발한 과학사 활용 NOS 프로그램이 과학 의 본성에 대한 예비 생물교사들의 인식에 긍정적인 영향을 미친 것으로 볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study examined the effect of the NOS (Nature of science) program using the history of science on pre-service biology teachers' perceptions of the nature of science. To this end, NOS program was developed by selecting various cases of the history of science based on literature analysis. The developed NOS program was applied to 11 pre-service biology teachers over 18 lessons. A pre-test and post-test were administered to pre-service biology teachers to determine their perceptions of the nature of science. The pre-test and post-test response results were analyzed from an ‘more naive views’ and ‘more informed views’ according to the analysis framework. As a result of the pre-test analysis, pre-service biology teachers generally showed more naive views on the empirical nature of science, diversity of scientific methods, scientific reasoning, theory dependence of scientific knowledge, and sociocultural embeddedness of science. In contrast, they all showed more informed perspectives on the provisionality of scientific knowledge and the use of creativity and imagination. The post-test showed more informed perspectives in all aspects such as the definition of science, diversity of scientific methods, provisionality of scientific knowledge, and theory dependence. In particular, pre-service biology teachers responded to specific cases of the history of science in the post-test by relating them to the nature of science. These results can be seen as a positive effect of the NOS program utilizing the history of science developed in this study on pre-service biology teachers' perception of the nature of science.
