This study is intended to explore the career search behavior of film majoring university students. Career search behavior can, first and foremost, be defined as the information-gathering activities which are performed to achieve a future career goal through systematic, scientific and purposeful methods on the basis of an understanding of oneself and of the job world. The subjects surveyed are 400 fourth-year undergraduates who are majoring in film studies in the universities nationwide. The survey took advantage of the twenty eight questions of Career Search Behavior (CSB) Scale devised by Choi Dong Sun (2003) and the six questions of foreign language preparation behaviour scale used by Seo Jin Sook (1998). The collected materials were verified by SPSS 18.0 (PASW 18.0) and AMOS 18.0 programs. The findings are summarized as follows:First of all, although gender-based difference of CSB did not indicate any statistically significant outcome, in all the sub-categories of CSB (self search, career search and language preparation), the average marks of male students were higher than those of female students. Second, age-based difference of CSB indicated a statistically significant outcome. According to research, the group of 24-25 years old students involve the most active self search behavior, followed by the groups of 26-27 and of 22-23, with the group of over 28 years old students indicating the least active self search behavior. This is presumably due to the fact that younger people have better capacity to adapt and older people have comparatively more difficulties in getting a job in the film field. Third, specialization (directing, acting and cinematography)-based CSB showed a statistically significant outcome only in the self search behavior factor. To put it more specifically, the group of acting majors evince more active self search behavior than the groups of directing or other majors. The results suggest that film students are by and large more interested in the acting field than the other fields. Fourth, the difference of CSB according to career choice period (elementary, middle or high school periods etc) showed a statistically significant outcome in both self search and career search behaviors. In other words, in these two categories, middle-school period group was differentiated from other groups. High school period group also showed a distinction from other groups. These findings demonstrate that a relatively earlier career choice (i. e. middle-school or high-school periods) is linked to more active career search behavior. Fifth, the difference of CSB according to university location also showed a statistically significant outcome in self search and career search behaviors, with the group of Chungchung province the most active, followed by Chonra, Gyounggi, Seoul and Gyoungsang provinces in order. It is thus assumed that students from the areas devoid of film-related infrastructure (for instance international film festivals like the ones of Chonju or Pusan and Seoul-based film industries etc ) tend to be more motivated to be engaged with career search behavior. Last but not least, the difference of CSB according to the household income level ( A, B, C) also showed a statistically significant outcome with the A groups the most active. The outcome attests to the fact that, as in career search behavior of other occupations, well-to-do students are likely to have more educational chances of foreign language and others and therefore they are better placed to perform active career search behavior.
