영문 초록

(2009), the first feature film of Neill Blomkamp, is a SFmovie produced in Hollywood, but has extraordinary value which deviatesfrom the frame of the existing mainstream genre. Because has moved the typical elements of the genre SF from the future universein the third world environment and so presents a new direction of SFmovie. South Africa, spatial background of the film, is now being recognizedas the land of hope and unity, but at the same time the dual structure byrampant poverty, unemployment and crime is firmly embedded in society. The cause could be found in the apartheid, in the historical politicaltragedy. The director, born in South Africa, would experience theapartheid policy in the childhood directly or indirectly. Therefore could be seen as a SF movie which shapes the historical and politicalissues experienced by director in the process of growth. Actually, filmcriticism estimates the political allegory or historical implications of thefilm. But this study analyzes through the perspective of multiculturallook, not in the historical political frame of analysis. In this studywould be considered how the (cultural-)subject in the movie gazes thestranger/others(-culture) and the multi-cultural look is shaped. Above all,the multi-cultural look here is a framework to interpret the encounter with the inferior aliens which performs essential narrative properties of SFgenre. The result of analysis offers that , not only SF(sciencefiction) but also SSF(social science fiction), reflects the real problems ofour multi-cultural society through an open ending.
