The Effects of Writer Immersion on the Functional and Structural Components of Writing with Middle School Students

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 필자기능 집중훈련(Writer Immersion)과 독자의 반응이 글쓰기의 구조적인 요소와 기능적인 요소에 미치는 영향을 분석하는 것이다. 필자기능 집중훈련의 전·후에 실시된 간헐기초선(probe)에서 글쓰기의 구조적 요소의 정확도와 독자가 실험 참가자의 지시를 읽고 정확하게 그린 그림요소의 수를 종속변인으로 측정하였다. 그리고 필자기능 집중훈련의 중재기에 실험 참가자가 보인 구조적 요소의 정확도와 독자가 실험 참가자의 지시를 읽고 활동을 완수하는 횟수 또한 종속변인으로 측정하였다. 본 연구의 독립변인은 독자와 실험참가자의 유대유관적(yoked contingency) 요소와 교사의 철자교정 절차를 포함하는 필자기능 집중훈련이었으며, 정서장애를 가진 8학년 중학생(중학교 3학년) 2명이 본 실험에 참가하였다. 종속변인과 독립변인 사이의 기능적 관계를 분석하기 위해 지연된 중다간헐기초선설계법이 사용되었으며, 중재를 전·후하여 간헐기초선을 실시하였고, 필자기능 집중훈련을 통하여 두 실험 참가자 모두의 기능적·구조적 글쓰기 능력이 향상되는 실험결과를 보여주었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to test the effects of Writer Immersion and the responses emitted by a reader on participants’ functional and structural components of writing. The dependent variables were the number of accurate structural and functional components written during the pre- and post-Writer Immersion probes, the accuracy of functional and structural components of writing during intervention. The independent variable was a Writer Immersion package that included the yoked contingency of the reader and teacher editing of structural components. Two eighth graders served as the participants who were in a self-contained classroom. The participants were chosen for this study due to their inability to write functionally and high structural errors. A time-lagged multiple probe across participants design was employed to test a functional relationship between the independent and dependent variables. The data were collected in the pre- and post-intervention probes prior to and following Writer Immersion. Results of data demonstrated that participants’ functional and structural components of writing increased across all two participants.
