6세~11세 저소득층 아동의 어휘 및 학습 능력에 관한 연구

국문 초록

연구목적: 우리나라 저소득층의 수가 매년 증가하는 추세에서 저소득층 아동의 어휘 및 학습능력에 대한 연구가 최근에 급속히 증가되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 저소득층 아동이 발달하면서 언어의 발달과 학습성취도의 변화를 살펴보고자 하였다. 연구방법: 연구에 참여한 저소득층 아동 98명은 만 6세에서 11세에 해당되며, 인지적인 문제나 감각적인 문제를 동반하지 않는 아동으로 선별하였다. 아동의 어휘력을 살펴보기 위해 수용표현어휘력검사를 실시하였으며, 학습성취도를 살펴보기 위해 기초학력검사의 읽기와 수학 항목만을 실시하였다. 검사의 소요시간은 약 1시간에서 1시간 30분정도 이루어졌으며, 자료처리는 연령별간 차이를 살펴보기 위해 일변량 분산분석과 Tukey 사후분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과: 저소득층 아동의 연령이 증가할수록 어휘력은 유의하게 향상되는 것으로 나타났으나 읽기 및 수학 성취도는 유의한 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 아동의 어휘력은 읽기능력과 유의한 상관관계가 나타났으나 수학과는 상관성이 없었으며, 수학은 읽기성취도와 상관성이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 결론: 저소득층 아동의 어휘 및 학습능력은 취학 전부터 지속되어 나타나며 학령기에 학습부진을 보이는 것을 알 수 있다. 따라서 기초 학습력을 지원하기 위한 선수지도가 유치원시기부터 이루어지는 것이 학습지원에 효과적일 것이다.

영문 초록

Purpose: Recently, the number of low income class in Korea has been increased year by year, research on vocabulary and learning ability of low income children has been rapidly increasing. In this study, linguistic development and academic achievement level of low income class children were investigated. Method: 98 children aged 6 to 11 years old participated in this study, they did not have cognitive or sensory problems. In order to examine vocabulary of children, REVT was performed and in order to examine academic achievement level, reading and mathematics items of KISE-BATT was carried out. The time required for all exam processer was approximately 1-1.5 hours. Data were analyzed by univariate ANOVA and Tukey ex-post analysis. Results: The results showed that the more age of low income class children was increased, the more was vocabulary enhanced significantly. However, no significant were not identified difference in reading achievement level and math level. The vocabulary achievement levels of children showed significant correlation with reading ability, but its relevance with mathematics was not observed. Mathematics showed relevance with achievement level of reading. Conclusion: It could be realized that vocabulary and learning ability of low income class children were persistently presented before school-age and was shown poor learning during school-age. Therefore, it would be effective for learning support that the pre-learning to support the basic learning ability is done from at time of kindergarten.
