복합의사소통장애 초등학생을 위한 미국의 특수학급 운영 사례 연구

국문 초록

연구목적: 본 연구의 목적은 미국의 한 초등학교에 있는 복합의사소통장애 학생을 위한 특수학급의 운영 사례를 분석하는 것이었다. 연구방법: 연구사례는 미국 캘리포니아주 오클랜드 시에서 T.A.C.L.E. 프로그램을 운영하는 특수학급이었다. 학급에는 3명의 특수교사, 13명의 복합의사소통 장애학생, 5명의 보조원, 1명의 간호사와 1명의 행동치료사가 있었다. 연구는 관찰과 면담, 자료 분석에 의한 질적 연구로 수행되었다. 연구결과: 첫째, 사례의 T.A.C.L.E. 특수학급은 주제중심 수업을 바탕으로 복합의사소통 장애 학생의 문해력 교육에 중점을 두며, 직접교수법을 사용하면서 학생들 지도에서 다양한 촉구 체계와 지도 전략을 활용하고 있었다. 둘째, T.A.C.L.E. 학급에서는 일반학생과의 교수적 통합뿐만 아니라 사회적 통합 활동과 비장애 또래나 장애 학생들 간의 또래관계가 다양하게 이루어지고 있었다. 셋째, T.A.C.L.E. 학급 학생들은 유니버설 디자인을 활용한 놀이터와 손 사용이 자유로운 워커를 이용해 또래들과의 사회적 상호작용 기회가 많았으며, 다양한 보조공학을 활용하여 교과 수업에 참여하고 있었다. 넷째, T.A.C.L.E. 학급은 관련 서비스 전문가들뿐만 아니라 보조원, 학부모, 간호사, 행동치료사, 학부모들과의 협력에 의해 운영되었다. 결론: 본 연구의 결과는 우리나라에서 복합의사소통장애 학생을 지도해야 할 특수학급 운영에 많은 정보를 제공할 것으로 사료된다.

영문 초록

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the managing status of an elementary school special class for students with complex communication needs(CCN) in the USA. Method: The case was an elementary school special class using T.A.C.L.E. program in California, USA. A qualitative study through the observation and interview was performed to analyze this special class case. There were three special education teachers, 13 students with CCN, one nurse, one behavior therapist and five assistants at the class. Results: First, the class was focused to teach literacy using various instruction strategies for students with CCN through theme-based instruction. Second, there was practical inclusion program via the instructional integration and the various social integration. Third, the students of the class participated at various activities using assistive technologies and played with peers in the universal design play ground. Fourth, the class was managed through the cooperation with assistants, parents, nurses, school speech-language therapists, and regional service specialists. Conclusion: The results of the study will provide information on the managing special class with students with complex communication needs in Korea.
