보완대체의사소통 몸짓상징의 도상성과 표현 용이성에 따른 유형과 특성

국문 초록

연구목적: 이 연구는 우리나라에서 사용되고 있는 몸짓상징을 도상성과 표현 용이성 정도에 따라 유형과 특성을 조사하기 위한 목적으로 실시되었다. 연구방법: 특수학교 교사와 학부모를 대상으로 각 몸짓상징의 도상성과 표현용이성을 5점 척도로 조사하였으며, 조사에 참여한 특수학교 교사는 30명, 학부모는 11명이었다. 조사한 어휘목록은 모두 30개였으며 한 어휘당 몸짓상징을 4개씩 제시한 조사지를 작성하여 조사하였다. 어휘별 몸짓상징 유형은 국내외에서 연구·개발된 손담, 수어, 핵심어기호체계, 베이비사인, 교사제안 몸짓상징이었다. 교사와 학부모가 조사지에 제시된 어휘별 몸짓상징을 보고 평정한 순위에 따라 도상성과 표현 용이성에 따른 어휘별 몸짓상징의 유 형과 특성을 분석하였다. 연구결과: 첫째, 도상성과 표현 용이성을 모두 고려하였을 때 몸짓상징 순위가 가장 높은 것은 교사제안 몸짓상징이며 다음으로 손담, 수어, 핵심어기호체계, 베이비사인 순으로 나타났다. 둘째, 도상성과 표현 용이성이 높은 몸짓상징은 해외에서 사용되는 몸짓상징보다 우리나라에서 개발되어 사용되는 몸짓상징이었다. 또한 도상성과 표현 용이성이 높은 몸짓상징은 대부분 의미를 빠르게 유추할 수 있거나 의미를 유추할 필요가 없이 직관적이고 친숙한 표현이었으며, 표현 범위는 몸 가운데 또는 얼굴 주변이 많았고, 관절의 가종범위가 좁았다. 결론: 이 연구결과는 교사제안 몸짓상징이 손담보다 도상성과 표현 용이성에서 높게 평가되고 있음을 나타내며, 교사와 학부모는 몸짓상징을 활용할 때 단순하게 한 종류의 몸짓상징만을 제시하기보 다 도상성과 표현 용이성을 다양하게 고려하여 몸짓상징을 다양하게 활용하는 것이 필요함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

Purpose: This study was conducted for the purpose of investigating the types and characteristics of simplified manual signs used in Korea according to their iconicity and ease of expression. Method: The iconicity and ease of expression of each manual sign were investigated on a 5-point scale for the teachers and the parents of special schools. 30 special school teachers and 11 parents participated in the survey. The types of manual signs for each vocabulary were Sondam, sign language, key word signing, baby sign, and teacher-suggested manual sign. Results: First, when considering both iconicity and ease of expression, the highest ranking of simplified manual sign was the manual sign suggested by the teachers, followed by Sondam, sign language, key word signing, and baby sign. Second, manual sign with high iconicity and ease of expression were developed and used in Korea rather than manual sign used abroad. In addition, most of the manual sign with high iconicity and ease of expression were intuitive and familiar expressions without the need to infer their meanings. As well, the range of expression was mostly in the middle of the body or around the face, and the range of joint types was narrow. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the manual signs suggested by teachers are evaluated higher in iconicity and ease of expression than Sondam. This suggests that teachers and parents need to use manual signs in various ways by considering iconicity and ease of expression rather than simply suggesting one type of manual sign when using manual signs.
