영문 초록
This study was conducted to survey the actual condition and recognition about implementation related to Discretionary Activity and Practical Arts Education. And it especially focused on Environmental Education, Sexuality Education and Learning by Experience among the contents of Practical Arts Education. 248 elementary school teachers and 270 children took part in this survey as respondents.
The results are as follows;
First, respondents suggested that the contents of Practical Arts Education in 3th and 4th grades should be taught generally through Discretionary Activity Class.
Second, the essential contents of Practical Arts Education which have to be taught in Discretionary Activity class were indicated the following order, Life Education of Home Economics>Computer>Environmental Education and so on.
Third, in case the teaching-learning aids of Discretionary Activity related with Practical Arts Education are provided, it was found that Practical Arts Education would be activated actually.
Fourth, they presented that the problem of environment is so serious that Environmental Education should be implemented in Elementary School. And seriousness about environmental pollution showed the following order, air pollution>water pollution>trash pollution and so on for teachers, on the other hand, trash pollution>air pollution>water pollution for children.
Fifth, the reasons which the contents of Environmental Education are insufficient in present are in shortage of scientific information about environmental education.
Sixth, the significant differences by age of teachers were found in the actual conditions of teaching related to Practical Arts contents in Discretionary Class. There were also significant differences in how often they performed environmental education in the classroom a month and in the reasons of insufficient environmental education contents.
Seventh, significant differences by educational career of teachers were brought out in the administration condition of Discretionary Activity class and also in the number of environmental classes a month.
Sexuality Education in elementary school is generally being taught during related subject class, therefore to teach S.E. consistently and systematically, available program and a variable teaching material development are demanded urgently.
As the biggest program in S.E., they indicate the deficiencies of teaching material and they suggest that in teaching method a variety of methods, for example, audio-visual medium, active image material used by computers, use of many kinds of reading material, role play, field trip, discussion should be practiced. Also for further education, beyond its fundamental level they advocate that it is necessary for kids to understand the sex role of female and male and teachers should give emphasis to human relation. S.E. enables each individual of kids to develop healthy and safe personality and play the right sexuality behavior. Sexuality behavior that is responsible and right has direct influence in human relation and home life.
Teacher group answered Investigation Activity of main Subject as the most important activity in Discretionary Activity and next Learning by Experience, and student group answered Learning by Experience as the most important in Discretionary Activity, and then Environmental Education. Two groups think that Learning by Experience is important in Discretionary Activity.
As for Learning by Experience, there were no significant differences between male teachers and female teachers. But there were some significant differences by age about whether they teach something related to Practical Arts Education in Discretionary Activity or not, and whether they intend to teacher something related to Practical Arts Education when going field trip or not.
