全州 李氏의 <바날졔문이라> 小考

국문 초록

<바날졔문이라>는 '孺人 全州 李氏'가 지은 국문의 '祭針文'으로, 현재 樂隱文庫 (故 樂隱 姜銓爕 敎授의 소장본 문고)에 보존되어 있어서 제대로 원문을 파악할 수 있다. 현재 비록 작자의 생평에 관한 구체적인 사항은 고찰하기 어려워도, 작자는 신변의 작은 사물에 대한 애착심이 풍부하여 소중하게 지니고 있던 바늘에 대한 상실의 지경에 이르러서 주체하지 못하는 감정으로 제문까지 지을 정도로 풍부한 감성과 문장력을 갖춘 인물이라고 여겨진다. 그런 문학적 감수성의 표현으로 본 제문을 남겼지만, 아쉽게도 여타의 작품이나 생평 관련의 제반 사항을 파악할 수 없는 실정이다. 작자가 본 작품을 짓게 된 동기를 살펴보면, 작자는 제침문을 짓기 한 해 전에 모친이 바늘 하나를 주면서 소중히 잘 쓰라는 당부를 하였는데 허망하게 부러뜨리게 되자, 한 해 동안 애지중지 곁에 두고 옷 만드는 일을 도모하였던 바늘의 공로를 치하하며, 자신이 잘못 간수하여 바늘을 상하게 만들어 마침내 제 구실을 못하게 된 상황을 비통하게 여기고서 애도하는 심경을 술회한 것으로 파악된다. 본 작품은 바늘의 불행한 사태에 작자 자신의 불행한 처지를 가탁하여 감정을 이입시킨 것이 아니라, 단지 애지중지 사용했던 바늘의 불행한 결과를 안타깝게 여기어 바늘에 인격을 부여하여 애도의 심정을 토로한 의인체 수필로 기록하였던 것이다. 유씨 부인의 <弔針文>이 세상에 알려진 이후, 이제야 또다시 발굴된 전주 이씨의 <바날졔문이라>를 통하여 조선시대 여성의 사물에 대한 섬세한 감성과 유려한 문체, 의인화의 기법으로 이뤄진 제침문류의 작품을 재조명할 수 있는 계기가 마련될 수 있게 되었다. 다시 말해서, <바날졔문이라>는 한국고전여성수필의 새로운 작품으로서 그 가치를 충분히 인정받을 수 있다고 본다.

영문 초록

, a jechimmun (funeral oration of mourning the loss of a broken needle) written in the Korean language by Lady Lee (of the Jeonju Lee Family), is handed down as a private collection of the late Prof. Nageun Kang Jeon-seop. Only a few jechimmuns including of Mrs. Yu are currently known in the Korean literature circles. Fortunately, has been preserved intact in Nageunmungo and its original text is still legible. Although it is difficult to study details of the writer's life, it was found that the writer was an emotional person with outstanding writing skills. Considering her funeral oration for mourning the loss of a broken needle, She must have had an attachment to her possessions, even small objects. She left this funeral oration based on her literary sensitivity, but there are no other works or materials which can be used for studying her life. The motive of this funeral oration is considered to be from manifestation of her femininity, because women's emotions including a relation between a woman and needle can't be easily sympathized with men. As mentioned in the funeral oration, the writer received a needle from her mother and was told to cherish it, one year before she wrote this jechimmun. When she unfortunately broke it, she appreciated the service of the needle she had cherished and used to make clothes for one year and grieved for the loss of the needle due to her carelessness. It was known that she wrote this funeral oration to express her regret over the loss of the needle. She didn't write this literary work by developing empathy with the unfortunateness of the needle for her misfortunes but recorded her feelings as a personification essay, grieving the loss of her precious needle and personifying an inanimate object. She expressed the contents of the jechimmun by personifying the needle and expressing a series of events including the encounter, loss, and farewell (a funeral for a soul) with it touchingly. Her memories with the needle represented in every single word reminds of the pure love (writing about giving one's life for love), beyond condolences for the loss of an ordinary object. Lady Lee's is the first jechimmun found after Lady Yu's became known. This literary work gave a great chance to shed new light on jechimmuns of women of the Joseon Dynasty period based on their delicate sensitivities, elegant writing styles, and personification techniques. Therefore, in addition to of Lady Yu, this literary work can be highly regarded as one of novel works among Korean women's classical essays.
