영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of teaching English through hip hop on kindergarteners' phonological awareness and interests. To achieve this goal, the experimental group was designed to teach phonological awareness, and arouse interests through hip hop. On the other hand, the control group was designed to share same objects as the experimental group, but using traditional songs such as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. This study was conducted over two months period with the 5 and 6 year-old kindergarteners; two groups consisting of 15 subjects each. After two months of experimentation, we measured the effects of the kindergarteners' phonological awareness and interests by using PALS and a questionnaire. Based on the results from both groups, the experimental group of the hip hop based lesson had more positive effects on aspects of their letter recognition and interests among the five hypothesis. And on rest of the hypothesis, the kindergarteners achieved the similar level of sound recognition, onset/rime recognition and nursery rhyme recognition in both the experimental and control groups. Therefore, this study discovered that using hip hop music of the experimental group is one of the most effective means in achieving phonological awareness and encouraging kindergartners' interests.
