한국과 미국 중학교 학생들의 읽기수업에서의 학습동기 비교 연구

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 한국과 미국 중학교 학생들의 읽기수업에서의 학습동기를 비교하였다. 일반적으로 학습동기는 학업성취에 영향을 미치는 핵심적인 요인으로 알려졌다. 그러나 국내 교실수업실태조사 연구에 의하면 학생들의 수업동기에 심각한 문제가 보고되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 다른 국가와 상대적 비교를 통해 한국 읽기수업에서의 학생들의 학습동기 수준을 분석하였다. 본 연구를 위하여 중학교 1학년 읽기수업 교사 5명과 학생 272명이 참가했으며, 그 중 학습장애 및 저성취 학생이 63명이었다. 본 연구결과에 의하면, 한국 학생들이 미국 학생들에 비해 자기효능감, 자신감, 학습지향동기, 개인적 인지활동, 분배적 인지활동에서 모두 낮게 나타난 반면, 시험불안과 표층적 인지에서 미국 학생보다 높게 나타났다. 이는 한국 학생들의 학습동기 수준이 미국 학생들에 비해 부정적인 것으로 해석할 수 있다. 논의 및 결론에서는 본 연구의 교육적 시사점과 한계를 논의하였다.

영문 초록

This study investigated the motivational differences between Korean and American students enrolled in a middle school. Language Arts classes. 5 teachers and 272 students participated in the study. Precious studies reported that Korean students were not fully motivated in classroom activities. Consequently, low motivation to learn affects negatively their school life including achievement and life-long reading activities. The MANOVA results of this study indicated significant differences between two countries in self-efficacy, test anxiety, subjective competence, learning orientation, and strategy activities including individual activity, surface-level activity, and distributed activity favoring American students' motivation to learn. This findings imply that Korean Language Arts class need to be changed to improve students motivation to learn. The implications for educators and future research directions based on the limitations of this study were discussed.
