단일통화체제하에서 유동성 효과와 통화정책에 관한 소고

국문 초록

  본 연구에서는 경제규모가 서로 다른 비대칭적인 국가간에 통화통합이 이루어질 경우 통화정책이 두 나라에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. Fuerst(1992)를 국제경제로 확장한 Ho(1992)와 Schlagenhauf and Wrase(1995)의 모형에 단일통화를 도입하여 분석하였다. 무형의해(solution)를 위해 단기간 모형으로 단순화하여 분석하였다. 분석결과 단일통화체제하에서 유동성 효과는 국가간의 부의 분배(wealth distribution)에 따라 다르게 나타나고 있으며 통화정책의 효과도 다르게 나타남을 알 수 있다. 통화량 증가율을 증대시키는 확장정책의 경우 상대적으로 가난한 국가의 후생을 더 많이 증대시키는 경향을 보임을 알 수 있다. 그러나 통화 공급에 대한 불확실성이 증대되는 경우에는 상대적으로 가난한 국가의 후생에 부정적인 영향을 미칠 것으로 예상된다. 만일 경제적 부의 차이가 많은 아시아 국가간에 통화통합이 이루어질 경우 통합 후의 통화정책은 참가국 모두에게 충분한 통화를 공급해야 하고 정책의 불확실성을 줄이는 것이 우선 되어야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

  In this study, the effect of monetary policy is analysed when two asymmetric countries unify their currency system. The employed model is similar to Ho(1992) and Schlagenhauf and Wrase(1995), which are extensions of Fuerst(1992) to international economy. But the model is simplified to one-period setup for analytic solution. The liquidity effect under single currency system is shown to be dependent on the wealth distribution across the participating countries. Naturally the monetary policy has different effect depending on the distribution. Expansionary policy increasing the money growth rate tends to increase the welfare of the relatively poor country more than that of the other. However, when the uncertainty of money supply is increased, the monetary policy has bigger negative effect for the poor country. Therefore, if Asian countries which are very inequal in wealth distribution unify their currencies, sufficient liquidity must be provided for all participating countries. Moreover, the monetary authority should exert an effort to minimize the uncertainty of the monetary policy.
