음악 교과의 ‘강력한 지식’ 논의에 대한 변증법적 고찰: 맥페일의 ‘개념기반 교육과정’ 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 뉴질랜드의 음악교육학자 맥페일의 ‘개념기반 교육과정’을 중심으로 음악 교과의 ‘강력한 지식(powerful knowledge)’ 논의를 검토하여 2022 개정 음악 교육과정 실천에 주는 함의를 변증법적으로 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 문헌연구를 통해 사회적 실재론을 기반으로 한 강력한 지식 논의와 음악 교과의 강력한 지식 논의를 검토한 후, 음악 지식의 맥락성, 음악 개념의 보편성, 음악 지식의 본질과 관련한 쟁점을 중심으로 비판적 검토를 시도하여 변증법적으로 결론을 도출하였다. 교육과정 실천 맥락에서 음악적 역량 함양을 위한 지식교육의 방향으로 맥락 독립적 음악 지식과 맥락 의존적 음악 지식의 균형, 우리나라 맥락에서의 국악 개념의 중요성 반영, 음악의 보편성과 특수성을 고려한 메타개념 제시, 개념적 음악 지식과 절차적 음악 지식의 균형을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to dialectically examine the direction of knowledge education for cultivating musical competencies in the practice of the music curriculum. This is based on a review of the ‘powerful knowledge’ in music education, which is centered on the ‘concept-based curriculum’ by Graham McPhail. To this end, the powerful knowledge based on social realism and the powerful knowledge in music education were reviewed, and then a critical review was then attempted focusing on issues related to the contextuality of musical knowledge, the universality of musical concepts, and the nature of musical knowledge to draw conclusions dialectically. As a direction for knowledge education for cultivating musical competencies, following were proposed: the balance between context-independent musical knowledge and context-dependent musical knowledge, the importance of the concept of Korean traditional music in the context of Korea, the presentation of meta-concepts considering the universality and specificity of music, and the balance between conceptual musical knowledge and procedural musical knowledge.
