국문 초록

상은 부산시 어린이집에 재직 중인 보육교 사 244명으로, 보육교사의 인식과 요구를 심층적으로 파악할 수 있도록 서술형 문항을 포함하여 설문 하였으며, 기술통계 분석과 질적 내용 분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 보육교사의 상호문화역량 인 식은 낮았으나 필요성 인식은 높았으며, 상호문화역량이 필요한 이유는 다양한 문화를 존중해야 하기 때문이라는 이유가 가장 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 상호문화역량에 대한 자기 수준 진단 정도는 보통 수준 으로 나타났으며, 개인적 성향 및 다양한 문화에 대한 관심 유무에 의해 진단하였다는 이유가 가장 많 았다. 셋째, 상호문화역량을 위한 지원 요구는 상호문화역량에 대한 기초교육, 다양한 문화에 대한 체 험과 실천 중심의 교육 순으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 보육교사의 상호문화역량 필요성에 대한 인식 이 적극적인 상호문화역량 강화를 위한 노력으로 이어질 수 있도록 지원이 필요하며, 용어 정의 및 개 념 기초교육을 우선적으로 제공하되 사례 중심 실천 연수와 체험 활동을 통해 보육교사가 느끼고 있는 상호문화역량 필요성을 구체적 역량으로 전환할 수 있는 단계적 연수 설계 도입이 필요함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study aims to explore strategies for fostering intercultural competence among childcare teachers by examining their perceptions and support needs. The participants were 244 childcare teachers employed at daycare centers in Busan, South Korea. Data were collected thgouh a survey incorporating both closed and open-ended items to capture teachers’ awareness, self assessments, and training needs The results revealed the following: First, although teachers demonstrated relatively low level of awareness regarding intercultural competence, they highly acknowledged its necessity, primarily citing the importance of respecting diverse cultures. Second, teachers’ self-evaluations reflected a moderate level of intercultural competence, with assessments largely shaped by individual disposiitons and personal interest in cultural diversity. Third, the most pressing professional need identified was foundational education on intercultural competence, accompanied by a strong demand for experiential and practice oriented training. These findings suggest the need to support teachers in transforming their perceived necessity for intercultural competence into practical capacity. Specifically, the study highlights the importance of providing foundational conceptual training followed by case-based and experiential learning opportunities through a phased professional development program.
