Difficult nasotracheal intubation in a patient with maxillary squamous cell carcinoma: a case report

국문 초록

Nasotracheal intubation is commonly used in head and neck surgeries. Typically, when a nasotracheal intubation fails, reattempts are made using alternative methods or by conversion to an orotracheal intubation. If these approaches are unsuccessful, surgical airway management should be considered. Intubation using an introducer, commonly referred to as the Seldinger technique, employs either an endotracheal tube exchanger or an bougie introducer. In the present case, difficulties were encountered when passing the nasotracheal tube through the nasal cavity owing to the tissue deformity caused by oral cavity cancer and anatomical abnormalities. Successful nasotracheal intubation was performed using the Seldinger technique. A rare occurrence of nasotracheal intubation complicated by difficulty passing through the nasal cavity is presented in this case report, along with a review of relevant literature.
