The mixture of Momordica charantia, Lagerstroemia speciosa and Jerusalem artichoke exert hypoglycemic effect in diabetic mice

This study investigates the potential hypoglycemic effect of a mixture composed of Momordica charantia (MC), Lagerstroemia speciosa (LS), and Jerusalem artichoke (JA) in diabetic mice. Diabetes mellitus is a prevalent metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia, often associated with complications such as neuropathy, nephropathy, and retinopathy. Natural remedies have gained attention for their potential to mitigate hyperglycemia and its complications. MC, LS, and JA are renowned for their traditional medicinal properties, including hypoglycemic effects. In this study, diabetic mice were orally administered with a mixture of MC, LS, and JA, and their blood glucose levels were monitored. Additionally, relevant biochemical parameters were assessed to elucidate the mechanism of action. Our results demonstrate that the mixture significantly reduced blood glucose levels in diabetic mice compared to untreated controls. Furthermore, the mixture exhibited antioxidative and anti-inflammatory properties, as evidenced by alterations in biochemical markers. These findings suggest that the combination of MC, LS, and JA holds promise as a natural therapeutic agent for managing hyperglycemia and associated complications in diabetes.
