국문 초록

본 연구는 도덕교육의 철학적 기반을 탐색하고 재구성하기 위해 ‘자기 형성’이라는 논의를 중심으로, ｢중용｣(中庸)에서 제시되는 ‘성’(誠)의 개념과 찰스 테일러(Charles Taylor)가 제시하는 ‘자기 진실성’(authenticity)의 개념을 비교 및 분석하여 이를 도덕교육에 적용하였다. 이 두 개념은 모두 도덕적 판단과 실천이 외재적 가치나 규범에 의존하기보다는, 자기 존재의 성찰과 윤리적 대화를 통해 형성되어야 함을 강조하며, 이는 ‘존재’ 중심이라는 도덕교육을 위한 철학적 기초를 제공한다. 이러한 관점의 전환은 도덕교육이 삶을 스스로 해석하고, 그 해석을 바탕으로 윤리적 방향성을 형성할 수 있도록 이끄는 데 교육적 의의를 지닌다. 또한, 본 연구는 도덕교육이 자기 존재에 대한 진실한 성찰을 통해 윤리적 삶을 구성해가는 자기 형성의 과정을 목표로 삼을 수 있다면, 급변하는 인공지능(AI) 기반 사회를 포함한 다양한 시대적 변화 속에서 도덕적 주체로서의 인간 존재가 위협받을 수 있는 현실을 대비할 수 있는 중요한 철학적 전환점을 제공한다. 이는 곧 도덕교육이 인간 존재의 깊이를 회복하고, 기술 중심 사회에서도 인간다운 삶의 방향을 모색할 수 있는 철학적 기반이 될 수 있음을 의미한다.

영문 초록

This study explores and reconstructs the philosophical foundation of moral education by focusing on the concept of self-formation, through a comparative and applied analysis of ‘Sincerity’(誠) in the Doctrine of the Mean and Charles Taylor’s concept of ‘authenticity’. Both concepts emphasize that moral judgment and action should not be grounded in external values or norms, but rather in self-reflection and ethical dialogue rooted in one’s own existence. This shift provides a philosophical basis for moral education centered on the ethical formation of being. Such an approach enables students to interpret their own lives and cultivate a personal sense of moral direction. If moral education can be reoriented toward sincere self-reflection and the formation of a responsible life, this study suggests that it may offer a critical philosophical foundation for confronting the potential erosion of moral agency in a rapidly evolving AI-based society. This suggests that moral education can serve as an educational turning point that preserves human existence and enables an ethically grounded life in the midst of a technology-driven social structure.
