고등학교 교양교육과 종교교육: 학교 종교교육 ‘삶과 종교’ 교과서를 중심으로

국문 초록

[연구 목적] 고등학교 교양교육 안에서 종교교육의 위치와 종교교육 활성화를 위한 방안에 대해 탐색하고자 한다. [연구 내용] 첫째, 고등학교 교양교육으로서 종교교육에 관해 고찰하기 위해 교양교육이란 무엇인가?, 고등학교 교양교육 변화과정, 고등학교 교양교육에 대한 기대, 교양 교과에 제기되어 온 문제들을 살펴본다. 둘째, 교양교육으로서 삶과 종교에 관해 고찰하기 위해 삶과 종교 교육과정 개발 과정, 교과 성격과 목표, 주요 내용과 교수 학습에서 강조점, 교과서 내용 선정과 구성, 교육과정 실행에서 교사와 학생의 역할에 대해 다룬다. [결론] 학교 교육과정에서 교양교육과 종교교육은 주변부에 머무르고 있다. 개정 교육과정에 따라 개발된 3종의 교과서는 ‘삶과 종교’ 교육과정의 성격을 반영하고 있으며 종교 문해력을 기르는 데 도움이 되는 내용으로 구성되어 있다. 향후 종립학교 뿐 아니라 공립학교에서의 종교 교과 개설을 위해 필요한 방안에 대한 지속적 탐구가 필요하다는 제안을 하였다.

영문 초록

[Objective] This study aims to explore the place of religious education within liberal arts education in high schools and to identify strategies for its revitalization. [Contents] First, in order to examine religious education as a component of liberal arts education in high schools, this study first explores the concept of liberal arts education, the historical development of liberal education in high schools, the expectations placed upon it, and the various issues that have been raised concerning liberal arts subjects. Second, to examine on ‘Religion in Life’ as a form of liberal education, the study addresses the development process of the Life and Religion curriculum, the subject’s nature and goals, key content areas and instructional emphases, the selection and organization of textbook content, and the roles of teachers and students in curriculum implementation. [Conclusions] In the school curriculum, both liberal arts education and religious education remain at the margins. The three textbooks developed under the revised curriculum reflect the nature of the ‘Religion in Life’ course and are structured to support the development of religious literacy. This study proposes the need for continued exploration of strategies for introducing religious education not only in private religious schools but also in public schools in the future.
