국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 저소득 한부모 여성 가구주의 삶의 경험에 관한 심층적 이해와 의미 탐구에 있다. 연구 방법은 질적 연구 방법인 내러티브 탐구이다. 저소득 한부모 여성 가구주 세 명을 대상으로 인터뷰 대화를 통해 자료를 형성하였다. 연구 목적을 달성하기 위하여 ‘버텨내며 살아온 삶의 이야기’, ‘극복하며 살아낸 삶의 이야기’, ‘다시 준비하며 살아갈 삶의 이야기’와 같이 세 가지 주제로 풀어냈으며, 이를 토대로 연구참여자들의 삶의 경험 의미를 ‘견고한 성읍이 되어서’, ‘홀로 아리랑 변주를 타고’, ‘겸손한 견딤을 배우며’, ‘다시 홀로 나서다’로 구성하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 연구참여자들은 어려운 환경을 버텨내고 한부모가족 체계를 지키며 다양한 삶의 변곡점에서 복지 낙인보다 더 두려운 빈곤을 경험하면서 지원정책을 기반으로 점차 삶을 회복하였고 자녀가 성인이 된 시점에서 자립 의지로 주체적 삶의 전환을 꾀하며 다시 홀로 나아갔다. 연구 결과에 근거하여 정책적 지원과 실질적 지지 방안을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to gain an in-depth understanding of the life experiences of low-income single mothers as female heads of households. A qualitative research method, narrative inquiry, was employed. Data were constructed through interview conversations with three low-income single mothers. To achieve the research aim, the participants stories were structured around three thematic narratives: ‘Stories of Enduring Life’, ‘Stories of Overcoming Life’ and ‘Stories of Preparing for Life Again’. Based on these themes, the meanings of their life experiences were interpreted through four metaphorical expressions ‘Becoming a Fortress’, ‘Playing a Alone Arirang Variation’, ‘Learning Humble Endurance’ and ‘Stepping Forward Alone Again’. The findings are as follows. The participants endured harsh environments, maintained their family structures as single mothers, and at various turning points in life, experienced poverty that was more daunting than the stigma of welfare. With policy support as a foundation, they gradually rebuilt their lives. As their children reached adulthood, they sought to transition into autonomous and self-directed lives, once again stepping forward on their own. Based on these findings, the study presents policy recommendations and practical support strategies for low-income single-parent households.
