발달장애형제를 둔 대학생의 아동기 경험 및 미래 진로에 대한 이야기

국문 초록

본 연구는 성인 비장애형제의 시각에서 비장애형제가 장애형제를 어떻게 인식하고 있는지를 살펴보고, 비장애형제가 장애형제와의 상호작용에서 어떠한 경험을 하였는지를 이해하고자 하였다. 본 연구는 발달장애형제를 둔 비장애형제 3명이 참여하였는데, 이들 3명은 모두 대학생으로, 장애형제를 둔 자신들의 아동기 경험과 미래 진로에 대해 서로 이야기를 나누었다. 대학생인 비장애형제는 장애형제로 인해 갈등과 고민을 경험하고 있었는데, 어렸을 적 친구들에게 장애형제를 소개하는 과정에서 친구들이 장애형제를 무서워해서 피하거나 장애형제를 놀리는 상황을 경험하였으며, 현재는 장애형제의 취업 등 장애형제가 학교 졸업 이후 어떻게 삶을 살아가야 하는지에 대해 염려하고 있었다. 비장애형제들은 성인기에 접어들면서 장애형제를 둔 다른 비장애형제를 만날 수 있는 기회가 주어지는 등 다양한 요인으로 인해 장애형제에 대한 태도가 긍정적으로 변화되었다. 비장애형제들은 어렸을 때는 비장애형제들을 위한 자조모임에 대해 잘 알지 못했으며, 만약 그런 모임에 참여할 기회가 있었다면, 도움이 되었을 것이라고 하였다. 비장애형제들은 미래 배우자 및 결혼에 대해서도 걱정을 하고 있었는데, 장애형제가 자신의 배우자에게도 짐이 될 수 있다는 것을 염려하고 있었으며, 미래 배우자의 가족이 자신에게 장애형제가 있다는 사실을 싫어하지 않을까 하는 우려도 가지고 있었다. 그리고 만약 자신도 장애아를 출산하게 되면 어떻게 대처해야 할까 하는 걱정하는 마음을 가지고 있었다. 본 연구는 발달장애형제를 둔 대학생의 이야기를 통해 비장애형제로서 살아온 시간들을 살펴보았고, 대학생이 되면서 변화된 장애형제에 대한 자신의 태도를 돌아보았으며, 성장기에 있는 비장애형제를 지원할 수 있는 방안에 대해서도 논의하였다. This study investigated how siblings without disabilities perceived their siblings with disabilities and what siblings without disabilities experienced through interaction with their siblings with disabilities. Three normal university students who have siblings with development disabilities participated in the study. The normal siblings shared their experiences as siblings of people with disabilities. The siblings experience conflicts and worries due to their siblings with disabilities; they experienced the difficulties when they introduced their siblings with disabilities to their friends. Recently, they had worries regarding the career of their siblings with disabilities. The siblings without disabilities had worries regarding their other siblings without disabilities. After their entrance in universities, the siblings’ attitude toward their siblings with disabilities changed positively, and the siblings had opportunities to meet other siblings without disabilities. The siblings without disabilities did not have information regarding sibling support groups, but they mentioned that they would participate if they knew the support groups. The siblings without disabilities had worries regarding their partner and marriage, and they thought that their siblings with disabilities could become a burden to their partners. They also worry about having offspring with disabilities. The study looked over the lives of university student siblings without disabilities, and they reviewed their changed attitudes toward their siblings with disabilities. They also mentioned the ways to support their other siblings without disabilities who experienced the difficulties.
