국문 초록

이 연구는 지식정보사회의 청소년 일상문화로 자리잡은 인터넷 커뮤니티 참여 과정에서 매개되는 지식·정보 습득 및 공유 과정에 대해 살펴보고자 하였다. 청소년들이 관심분야 커뮤니티에 참여하면서 어떠한 방식으로 개별적 지식을 습득하며 심화시키는지, 또 습득한 지식을 집단적, 사회적으로 공유하고 확산시키는 과정은 어떠한지에 대해 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 청소년들이 즐겨찾는 게임, 애니메이션, PC 관련 커뮤니티 구성원들을 대상으로 심층면담을 수행하였고, 이들의 온라인과 오프라인 활동을 참관하였다. 커뮤니티에 적극적으로 참여하는 청소년들은 전보습득을 위해 커뮤니티 활동을 시작하다가 점차 새로운 정보를 제공하는 역할을 한다. 또한 새로운 게임이나 기계에 대해 남보다 빨리 사용해보고 논평을 제시한다. 이들은 관심분야 지식 확장을 위해 전문 사이트를 방문하거나 전문가를 만나기도 하며, 적극적으로 외국어를 공부하기도 한다. 이들은 습득한 지식을 커무니티 구성원에게 제공할 뿐 아니라, 나아가 포털 사이트에 제공하여 사회적 지식 확산에도 기여하고 있었다. This study aims to investigate the process of acquiring and sharing knowledge and information through youth participation in the cyber community, which is assumed as part of a youth's daily life and culture, these days. I have paid attention on how they acquire and deepen individual knowledge, and how they spread individual knowledge to their community. For doing so, I conducted in-depth interviews with the participation of several internet communities, of which major interests are game, animation and PC, popularized by young people in general. I also did some on-line and off-line participant-observation on their community activities. Youths, who are eager to participate in their communities of interest, initially join their communities in order to get new information. As their expertise and interests grow, they turned into information-providers to their community members. They also give reviews and comments on newly developed games and machine as early adopters. They visit more specialized web sites and/or refer to experts to expand their knowledge scope. Some of them are eager to learn a foreign language related with their area of interest. They ultimately contribute to social distribution of knowledge and information by providing answers to the portal site as well as their own community.
