영문 초록

This study examined the effects of cognitive-behavioral group counseling on aggressive behaviors among children from low-income families. A total of 12 cognitive-behavioral group counseling sessions had been conducted for 11 children from low-income families. Each session lasted 80 minutes. Two sessions were conducted each week, and the entire program was completed over six weeks. The participants were enrolled in elementary schools, and local child and youth centers in Seoul. The results were as follows. First there were no significant differences in the parents' evaluations of children's aggression in low-income families before and after undergoing counseling. Second, teachers made significantly positive evaluation of the children after they participated in the program. Third, there were significant differences in the children's evaluations of their own aggressive behaviors after they participated in the program. They suggested that it is necessary to use the cognitive behavioral group counseling program to address aggressiveness among children from low-income families and for various informants to actively intervene in the evaluation of children's problematic behaviors.
