국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 최근 사회복지분야에 새롭게 소개된 질적 해석적 메타통합을 적용하여 한국노인의 삶의 의미에 대한 새로운 이해를 제공하기 위한 것이다. 한국노인은 과거와 현재 그리고 기대되는 현실인 미래의 환경적 영향에 따라 상당히 다른 삶의 의미를갖는 것으로 이에 대한 적절한 개입을 개발하는 것이 중요하다. 연구자들이 도출해 낸새로운 중요주제는 (1) 가족기반의 삶의 변화, (2) 나이든 인생의 의미, 그리고 (3) 의미의 경험과 창조였다. 통합된 주제로부터 도출해낸 시너지적 이해로써 한국노인의 삶의 의미는 가족기반의 삶의 변화와 나이든 인생의 경험에 의미를 부여함으로써 스스로의 삶을 창조해나가는 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 발견을 통해 한국노인의 삶의 의미에대한 현재의 관점을 발전시키고, 이들이 다양한 욕구와 문제에 대처하며 보람 있고 가치있는 삶을 추구하는 것을 돕기 위한 프로그램 개발과 정책마련에 기여하게 될 것이다.

영문 초록

The aim of this study was to provide a new understanding of the meaning of life for the elderly in Korea by applying the qualitative interpretive meta-integration method, a newly introduced method in the field of social welfare. The meaning of life is quite different depending on elderly’s past, present, and expected future environment, and it is important to develop proper interventions accordingly. The new important themes of the researchers consisted of (1) the change of life based on family (2) the meaning of aged life, and (3) the experience and creation of meaning. As a synergistic understanding derived from the integrated theme, the meaning of the life of the elderly in Korea has been confirmed to create their own life by giving meaning to the change of life based on family and the experiences of life as aged. The findings of this study contribute to development of better understanding of the meaning of elderly’s life, and provide empirical ground to the development of programs and policies to assist the elderly to better cope with various problems and needs, and to pursue a rewarding and worthwhile life.
