Factors Asscociated with Non-Suicidal Self-Injury and Suicidal Behavior among Runaway Youth

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 가정 밖 청소년의 비자살적 자해 및 자살 행동의 실태와 이에 영향을 미치는요인을 파악하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 여성가족부의‘위기청소년지원기관 실태조사’자료를 활용하였으며, 청소년쉼터 및 청소년자립지원관을 이용한 적이 있는 가정 밖 청소년 521명을 대상으로분석을 실시하였다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 가정 밖 청소년의 자해 생각(34.4%), 자해시도(25.0%), 자살 생각(32.6%), 자살 시도(14.8%)로 나타났다. 이는 위기청소년보다 1.5-2배 높은 수치로 가정 밖 청소년이 자해⋅자살 고위험군임을 보여준다. 둘째, 가정 밖 청소년의 비자살적자해 및 자살 행동에 영향을 미치는 요인은 성별, 자존감, 우울, 부모-자녀 관계, 성폭력 피해 경험으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과를 통해 그동안 주목받지 못하였던 가정 밖 청소년의 비자살적 자해및 자살 행동의 심각성을 파악하고 이에 영향을 미치는 요인 확인함으로써 자해⋅자살 고위험군인가정 밖 청소년에 대한 정책과 개입 방안을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study aims to examine the status of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) and suicidal behavior among runaway youth and to explore the factors associated with NSSI and suicidal behavior. For this purpose, data from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family’s 2021 Survey on the Living Conditions of At-Risk Youth Using Support Institutions were utilized, and the analysis targeted runaway youth aged 12 to 18 who had used youth shelters and youth self-reliance support centers (N = 521). Descriptive statistics and logistic regression analyses were conducted using SPSS 29.0. The main findings are as follows. First, among runaway youth, 34.4% reported thoughts of NSSI, 25.0% had attempted NSSI, 32.6% had suicidal thoughts, and 14.8% had attempted suicide. These rates indicate a higher risk of NSSI and suicidal behavior compared to other at-risk youth. Second, the variables related to NSSI and suicidal behavior among runaway youth included gender, self-esteem, depression, parent–child relationship, and experience of sexual violence. Based on these results, the study proposes practical and policy measures for the prevention and intervention of NSSI and suicidal behavior among out-of-home adolescents.
