Transforming TVET Education in Nepal Through AI-Enhanced Digital Learning

국문 초록

[연구목적] 본 연구는 네팔의 직업교육훈련(TVET) 기관에서 추진하고 있는 디지털 학습 전환 과정을 연구하는 데 목적이 있다. 특히 ADDIE 기반의 디지털 학습 설계와 AI 감독(AI-proctoring)이 학습자 참여, 강좌 이수, 학습 성과 향상에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 분석하고자 하였다. [연구방법] 혼합연구방법의 틀에서 Creswell(2009)의 설명적 순차 설계를 적용하여 기관의 디지털 전환 과정과 AI 감독이 학습자 참여, 강좌 이수, 학습 성과에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 이후 질적 분석을 통해 TVET 환경에서 디지털 학습 도입에 대한 교·강사와 학습자의 인식을 심층적으로 탐색하였다. [연구결과] 양적 연구 결과, 학습자 참여도, 강좌 이수율, 학습 성과가 유의미하게 향상된 것으로 나타났다. 질적 연구 또한 AI 기반 모니터링과 개인화된 학습 지원에 대해 긍정적인 결과를 보여주었다. 특히 AI 감독은 수동적 사전학습 행동을 감소시키고 적극적 참여를 촉진하는 데 중요한 역할을 하였다. 다만 기술적 제약과 개인정보 보호와 관련된 우려도 일부 제기되었다. 본 연구를 통하여 AI 분석 및 모니터링이 학습 예측과 개인 맞춤형 교수 지원을 가능하게 하는 데 중요한 의미가 있음이 밝혀졌다. [결론] 본 연구를 통하여 AI의 역할이 단순한 감독 기능을 넘어 개인 맞춤형 튜터링, 가상 학습 지원, 적응형 평가로 확장되기 위해서는 윤리적이고 협력적인 접근이 필수적임을 확인하였다. 이러한 연구 결과는 TVET 분야의 디지털 전환을 촉진하고, 미래 학습환경에서 디지털 도구·AI·융합기술의 활용을 확대하기 위한 교육혁신 논의에 중요한 시사점을 제공한다.

영문 초록

[Purpose] This study investigates the transition toward digital learning within a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution in Nepal. Specifically, the study examines how an ADDIE-based digital learning design, supported by AI-proctoring, contributes to learner engagement, course completion, and learning outcomes. [Method] Guided by Creswell’s (2009) Explanatory Sequential Design within a mixed-methods framework, this study presents the institution’s digital transformation process, as well as the impact of AI proctoring on learner engagement, course completion, and learning performance. Subsequently, qualitative insights explore the perceptions of instructors and learners on the adoption of digital learning in the TVET environment. [Results] Quantitative findings revealed significant improvements in learner engagement, course completion, and enhancements in learning outcomes. Additionally, qualitative insights revealed positive attitudes towards AI-driven monitoring and personalized learning support. AI proctoring in particular played a significant role in minimizing passive pre-class behavior and promoting active engagement. Despite noting challenges, such as technical constraints and privacy concerns, the study ultimately highlights the value of AI analytics and monitoring in enabling learning prediction and personalized instruction. [Conclusion] This research highlights the importance of adopting ethical and collaborative approaches to AI integration, expanding its role beyond proctoring to encompass personalized tutoring, virtual assistance, and adaptive assessments. These findings contribute to advancing digital transformation in the TVET sector and offer valuable insights for educational innovation, promoting the adoption of digital tools, AI, and cross-cutting technologies to enhance future learning environments.
