국문 초록

본 연구에서는 최근 전 세계적으로 지속가능 발전에 대한 관심이 높아짐에 따라, 기업의 사회적 책임과 환경 경영이 기업 경쟁력을 강화하고 지속가능 발전을 실현하는 핵심 요소로 부각되고 있다. ESG 성과는 기업의 지속가능 발전 역량을 측정하는 중요한 지표로서 널리 주목받고 있다. 본 연구에서는 2014년부터 2023년까지 A주 상장기업을 연구 표본으로 선정하여 ESG 성과가 기업의 혁신 투자에 미치는 영향 및 그 작용 메커니즘을 분석하였다. 그 결과 분석을 통해 다음과 같은 결론을 도출하였다. 우수한 ESG 성과는 기업의 혁신 투자를 유의미하게 증가시키며, 이러한 관계는 부채 조달 비용을 감소시키는 부분 매개 효과를 통해 작용한다. 또한, ESG 성과가 혁신 투자에 미치는 긍정적 영향은 국유기업과 비(非)동부 지역 기업에서 더욱 두드러지게 나타났다. 본 연구는 ESG 성과가 기업의 혁신 투자를 직접적 및 간접적 경로를 통해 촉진하는 내재적 메커니즘을 규명할 뿐만 아니라, 기업 관리자, 투자자 및 정책 결정자에게 혁신 역량을 강화하고 자원 배분을 최적화하며 지속가능 발전을 실현하는 데 있어 이론적 근거와 실천적 시사점을 제공한다.

영문 초록

Purpose: Against the backdrop of the ongoing promotion of a green economy and highquality development strategies, how enterprises can enhance their innovation capability through sustainable pathways has become a critical issue. Research design, data, and methodology: Although existing studies have explored the relationship between ESG performance and corporate innovation, the underlying mechanisms and heterogeneous effects—especially in the context of China—remain insufficiently examined. This study investigates the impact of ESG performance on corporate innovation investment using a sample of companies with Class A shares listed from 2014 to 2023. Results: The findings show that strong ESG performance significantly enhances corporate innovation investment, and this relationship is partially mediated by a reduction in the cost of debt financing. Moreover, the positive impact of ESG on innovation investment is more pronounced in state-owned enterprises and firms located in non-eastern regions. Conclusions: This study not only uncovers the internal mechanisms through which ESG performance promotes corporate innovation—both directly and indirectly—but also provides theoretical foundations and practical insights for managers, investors, and policymakers aiming to enhance innovation capacity, optimize resource allocation, and achieve sustainable development.
