This paper offers a review of Professor Liu Bai’s new monograph Urban Writing in African Am erican Literature (2022). In terms of research perspective, the book focuses on the relationship between Black people and the city, systematically tracing the evolution of urban representation in African American literature and revealing the complex dynamics of interdependence, tension, and coexistence between the two. Methodologically, it integrates literary-historical analysis with close textual reading, allowing readers to gain a deeper understanding of the historical connections and emotional bonds linking African Americans and urban space. In terms of academic value and significance, the author demonstrates keen problem awareness, an innovative research vision, rigorous structural design, and a broad intellectual horizon, endowing the work with both theoretical depth and humanistic warmth. Overall, the book stands as a scholarly achievement of considerable academic value and enlightening significance within the field of Western literary studies in China.

영문 초록

本文对刘白教授的新著《美国非裔文学中的城市书写研究》（2022）进行了评述。在研究视角上，该著聚焦于“黑人与城市的关系”，系统梳理了美国非裔文学中城市书写的演变脉络，揭示了黑人与城市之间相依相斥、对立与共生的复杂关系。在研究路径上，该著将学术史梳理与文本细读紧密结合，使读者得以深入体察黑人与城市之间的历史关联与情感纽带。在研究价值与意义上，著者以敏锐的问题意识、新颖的研究视角、严谨的篇章布局与宏阔的大局意识，使全书兼具理论深度与人文温度，展现出饱满而厚重的学术内涵。总体而言，该著是我国西方文学研究领域一部具有重要学术价值与启示意义的成果。
