국문 초록

본 논문은 현대 교회 내에서 여성의 목사 안수 문제를 개혁신학의 핵심 구조 중 하나인 언약신학, 특히 언약의 대표성(federal headship) 원리에 비추어 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 오늘날 여성안수를 지지하는 논의는 주로 성경 본문의 해석이나 사회적 평등이라는 관점에서 접근하고 있지만, 본 논문은 교회의 공적 직분을 단지 기능적 배분이 아니라 언약적 대표성을 요구하는 구조 속에서 성찰해야 함을 강조한다. 개혁파 장로교회는 창세기에서 시작되는 언약 신학, 곧 아담과 그리스도를 언약의 대표자로 설정한 성경적 틀 속에서 교회의 질서를 이해해 왔다. 이 대표성 원리는 신자의 구원 구조뿐 아니라 교회 정치 질서에도 영향을 미치며, 남성에게 공적 직분을 위임하신 하나님의 창조질서와 언약적 질서를 존중하는 차원에서 이해되어야 한다. 본 연구는 역사신학, 성경신학, 조직신학의 세 영역을 통합적으로 아우른다. 먼저 교회사 속에서 여성 직분에 대한 논의가 어떻게 전개되어 왔는지를 살펴보고, 다음으로 고린도전서, 디모데전서, 갈라디아서 등의 핵심 본문들을 성경신학적으로 분석한다. 마지막으로 언약의 대표성이라는 조직신학적 원리를 토대로 여성의 목사직 수행이 교회의 본질과 정합하는지를 고찰한다. 결론적으로, 여성의 목사 안수는 언약의 대표성에 근거한 교회 직분의 본래적 구조와 충돌하며, 이는 단지 전통의 고수가 아닌 성경의 교리적 질서를 수호하는 문제임을 제시한다. 본 논문은 대부분 성경신학 중심으로 구성된 기존 여성안수 논의에 비해, 언약신학적 관점의 보완적 접근을 제시한다는 점에서 이론적 가치와 실천적 시사점을 지닌다.

영문 초록

This study aims to examine the contemporary issue of women’s ordination to pastoral office through the lens of covenant theology, specifically the principle of federal headship, a cornerstone of Reformed theology. While contemporary discussions on women’s ordination, particularly those who support it, often focus on egalitarian interpretations of biblical texts or socio-cultural arguments for equality, this paper contends that ecclesiastical office must be considered within the framework of covenantal representation, not merely as a functional role. The Presbyterian Reformed tradition has historically understood church polity through the biblical structure that presents Adam and Christ as covenantal representatives. This principle of federal headship is not only central to soteriology but also foundational to ecclesiastical order, rooted in God’s orders of creation and redemption. The study proceeds through three theological lenses: historical theology, biblical theology, and systematic theology. It first surveys the historical development of the debate over women’s roles in ordained ministry. Then, it analyzes key scriptural passages—1 Corinthians, 1 Timothy, and Galatians—through a redemptive-historical lens. Finally, it examines whether the ordination of women aligns with the essence of the Reformed church office based on the covenantal principle of federal headship. The study concludes that female ordination undermines the covenantal order of representative office established in Scripture and maintained by the Reformed tradition, thus constituting a departure from the doctrinal integrity of the church rather than a mere shift in ecclesial practice. In contrast to the predominantly biblical-theological focus of prior literature on the topic, this study offers a distinctive covenant-theological contribution, affirming its significance both theoretically and pastorally.
