국문 초록

본 연구에서는 『셩교촬리』(聖敎撮理, 1890), 『샹뎨진리』(上帝眞理, 1891), 『그리스도문답』(耶蘇敎問答, 1893)을 중심으로 초기 한국기독교의 신관(神觀)을 고찰하고자 한다. 세 문헌은 한국 기독교 전래 초창기인 1890년부터 1893년 어간에 미국북장로교 파송 선교사 언더우드에 의해 한역(韓譯)되었다. 한국 기독교 초엽 신관에 관한 가르침은 이 문헌들을 통해 고찰할 수 있으며, 이 저작들은 당시 신관과 관련하여 다양한 신학적 논점들을 제공해준다. 이들 번역본 문헌에는 지고(至高)의 아르케(ἀρχή)로서의 하나님의 위상과 속성들, 신(神)의 호칭과 원시적 삼위일체론, 하나님 존재증명과 우상숭배의 허상(虛想) 등에 관한 통상적인 논증들이 전개되어 있다. 본 연구에서 분석한 주요 논점들은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 아르케로서의 하나님의 위치와 속성에 관한 논지들로서 통치자, 주권자, 지고(至高)한 자, 만물의 창조자 등의 개념들을 논했다. 둘째, 아르케로서의 하나님의 신성한 속성들에 관한 논지들로서 불가시적 영체, 무소부재, 전지성, 전능성, 영생의 실존, 불변성, 존재적 지속성, 만물의 원인자, 자존성 등을 설명했다. 셋째, 신의 호칭과 원시적 삼위일체론에 관한 논지들로서 상제, 여호와, 주, 신, 성부, 성자, 성령, 삼위와 일체 등을 중점적으로 조명했다. 넷째, 『샹뎨진리』를 중심으로 하나님 존재증명에 관한 논지들로서 우주론적 논증기법, 목적론적 논증기법, 예술론적 논증기법, 일반계시 등에 대해 분석했다. 다섯째, 우상숭배의 허상에 관한 논지들로서 불교의 불상, 도교의 옥황상제, 유교의 상제, 조상제사, 택일(擇日), 신주(神主, 位牌), 화상(畵像), 하늘과 땅 숭배사상 등을 살폈다.

영문 초록

This paper attempts to study the view of God in the early Christian doctrine of Korea, focusing on Salient Doctrines of Christianity(1890), The True Doctrine of God(1891), and Christian Catechism(1893). These three texts were translated into Korean by PCUSA missionary Horace G. Underwood from 1890 to 1893 during the early years of Korean Christianity. The view of God in the early Christian doctrine of Korea is based on these books and these literatures show us the various theological issues in that era. These translated texts covered the whole spectrum about the positions and attributes of God as the highest arche(ἀρχή), arguments about divine titles and proto-trinity, the argument for the existence of God and the futility of idolatry, and so on. The important points of this study could be summarized as follows: Firstly, I treated with the positions of God as the arche such as the ruler, the sovereign, the highest being, the creator of all things, and so on. Secondly, I tried to explain the divine attributes of God as the arche such as invisible spiritual being, omnipresence, omniscience, omnipotence, eternal existence, immutability, existential persistence, cause of all things, aseity, and so on. Thirdly, I concentrated on divine title and proto-trinity such as Sanje, Jehovah, Lord, God, Holy Father, Holy Son, Holy Ghost, three persons and one substance, and so on. Fourthly, I analyzed the argument for the existence of God in The True Doctrine of God such as cosmological argument, teleological argument, aesthetical argument, general revelation, and so on. Fifthly, I studied the futility of idolatry such as buddha statues in Buddhism, Jade Emperor in Taoism, sangje in Confucianism, ancestral rites, choosing dates, mortuary tablet, pictures, worship of heaven and earth, and so on.
