국문 초록

The purpose of this research is to examine the Chinese-Korean translation of the Diamond Sutra based on the textual cohesion. The sample of the research targets the texts of the Diamond Sutra, and its scope limits pronouns, demonstratives, and repeated expressions. The research method utilizes a literature review and a descriptive approach. The findings indicate that proper names in the source text maintained the cohesive relations as pronouns and were conveyed in the same form in the target text. In the case of demonstratives, they replaced the entire previous sentence, and even demonstrative adjectives were also conveyed in the same form in the target text. Finally, repeated expressions used to emphasize meanings in the source text, and their translation forms were applied to the target text by meaning-based translation. Based on these analytical results, this research is able to confirm that the cohesion of the source text is reflected in the target text in the Chinese-Korean translation of the Diamond Sutra. Nevertheless, since this research focuses only on the Diamond Sutra, it has limitations in evaluating the appropriateness of translation. Further research is necessary to investigate more translations of Buddhist scripture texts based on cohesion, including coherence, to secure the objectivity of the research results.
