노인 대상 디지털 미디어 문해교육 특징 연구

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 노인층을 대상으로 한 디지털 미디어 문해교육의 현황과 특징을 살펴보고, 노인층에 적합한 교육이 되기 위해서는 어떤 보완이 필요한지 모색하는 것이다. 본 연구는 노인 대상 디지털 미디어 문해교육의 특징을 알아보고 향후 개선 방향을 마련하기 위해 전남 지역에서 노인 대상 디지털 미디어 문해교육 현장의 전문가를 대상으로 면담 조사를 실시하였다. 노인은 연령이 들수록 통합적 사고능력이 상승하지만 신체적 능력이 감소하고, 심리적으로 고정관념이 강화되어 새로운 지식을 수용하기 힘든 경향이 있다. 노인 디지털 미디어 교육은 이러한 노인의 특성을 잘 반영하여 시행되어야 한다. 연구 결과 디지털 기기를 활용하지 못하는 노인들의 불편함을 극복하기 위한 프로그램을 시행하고 있었다. 노인 학습자들은 평생 비 디지털 환경에서 살았기 때문에 디지털 미디어에 적응하기 힘든 경우가 많았다. 노인 학습자들을 위한 디지털 미디어 학습이 간헐적으로 이루어지고 있거나 매년 유사한 프로그램이 시행되고 있었다. 노인 디지털 미디어 문해교육 프로그램은 주로 컴퓨터, 인터넷 활용, 동영상 제작, 블로그, 유튜브 활용, 문서 작성, 스마트폰, 키오스크 교육 등 노인 학습자들이 일상생활에서 대할 수 있는 디지털 기기나 애플리케이션 등을 중심으로 프로그램을 진행하였다. 일상생활에서 익숙한 내용을 학습 소재로 하여 자연스럽게 수업이 진행되도록 하고 있었다. 디지털 미디어 관련 낯선 용어를 어르신들이 손쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 도왔으며 이와 함께 노인 학습자들이 일상적으로 경험할 수 있는 다양한 곳에 적용하게 하여 학습효과를 높이고 있었다. 이러한 교육은 노인의 특성에 따라 쉽게 접근하고 반복적으로 경험하게 하여 학습효과를 높일 수 있었지만, 노인의 통합적 사고능력을 높이는 문해교육 수준까지는 나아가지 못하고 있었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the current status and characteristics of digital media literacy education for the elderly, and to explore what improvements are needed to make such education more suitable for older adults. To better understand the characteristics of digital media literacy education targeting the elderly and to suggest possible directions for improvement, this study conducted interviews with experts in the field of elderly digital media literacy education in the Jeonnam region. As people age, older adults tend to develop greater integrative thinking abilities, but experience a decline in physical capabilities and a reinforcement of psychological stereotypes, making it more difficult for them to accept new knowledge. Digital media education for the elderly should be implemented in a way that reflects these characteristics. Research results indicate that, with consideration of the characteristics of older adults, digital device use in daily life is becoming commonplace. At the same time, the inconvenience experienced by seniors who cannot use digital devices is increasing, leading to the implementation of programs designed to help overcome these difficulties. The results of the study showed that as daily life increasingly relies on digital devices, elderly individuals who are unable to use these devices experience growing inconvenience, leading to the implementation of relevant educational programs to address this issue. Elderly learners often find it difficult to become accustomed to digital environments, not only due to age but also due to economic factors. Many elderly learners participate in such educational programs repeatedly every year, as their learning tends to be intermittent rather than continuous. Digital media literacy programs for the elderly primarily cover topics such as computer and internet use, video production, blogging, YouTube use, document creation, smartphone operation, and kiosk training—focusing on digital devices and applications that elderly learners may encounter in everyday life. The programs are designed so that lessons proceed naturally, using familiar daily life topics as learning materials. When explaining hardware or software, analogies are used to help learners understand easily, and efforts are made to apply what they learn to a variety of everyday situations the elderly may experience, thereby enhancing learning effectiveness. Such education allowed for easy access and repeated experiences according to the characteristics of older adults, thereby enhancing the learning effect. However, it did not reach the level of literacy education that improves integrative thinking abilities in the elderly.
