국문 초록

이 논문은 17세기 유럽의 교육신학자로 알려진 코메니우스의 간략한 연대기와 그의 구원론을 소개한 글이다. 코메니우스의 구원론은 그리스도를 통한 구원의 복음이 사도들에 의하여 전파된 성경적인 내용을 주축으로 하고 있다. 그것은 믿음, 소망, 사랑에 관한 것으로, 전적으로 그의 독창적인 것은 아니었다. 정확하게 말하면 그가 속해 있던 형제 연합교회가 처음부터 믿고 따랐던 구원 신앙이었다. 이것은 초대교회 신앙으로 돌아가는 정신으로, 특히 16세기 루터의 종교개혁 이후, 코메니우스는 오히려 더 분명한 성경에 근거한 구원론으로 더욱 발전시켜 자신의 신학의 중심 체계로 삼았다고 할 수 있다. 본 논문은 코메니우스가 이해한 믿음, 소망, 사랑과 관계된 그의 구원론을 다룬다. 이것은 성경 전체에 흐르는 하나님 계시의 핵심주제와 연관된 내용이라 할 수 있다. 그리고 믿음, 소망, 사랑은 그리스도의 교회가 모든 사람에게 가르치고 깨우쳐야 할 구원 신앙의 본질(Essentiaia)이라는 것과 그리고 설교와 종교교육을 포함한 교회를 통하여 실현되어야 할 복음 사역의 핵심과제이며, 목표라는 것 등을 본 논문은 전반부에서 다룬다. 이 논문의 후반부는 코메니우스가 종교개혁의 구원론의 핵심 주제인 칭의가 믿음, 소망, 사랑과 어떻게 서로 연관된 것인지를 다룬다. 여기서 우리는 믿음에 의한 칭의가 믿음과 행위(사랑)의 대립 관계를 어떻게 극복하게 되는지를 다루게 되며, 또한 코메니우스가 17세기 유럽의 개신교회가 믿음과 행위(사랑)의 관계만을 중히 여기고 소망의 복음적인 가치를 간과했던 경향을 지적하며, 그 안에서 믿음, 소망, 사랑이 구원론의 중심에 자리매김이 되어야 할 것을 얼마나 중요하게 강조했던지를 확인하게 될 것이다. 결론적으로 이 글은 코메니우스가 기독교 구원론을 믿음, 소망, 사랑과의 관계에서 어떻게 이해하였는지를 서술한다. 한 가지 특이점은 그의 구원론이 오늘날 조직신학에서 칭의와 성화(영화)의 관계를 명확히 구분하여 설명하는 방식을 따르지 않고, 오히려 믿음, 소망, 사랑의 관계로 온전히 이해하게 해주었다는 점이다.

영문 초록

This paper will first introduce a brief chronology of Comenius and then discuss his soteriology. This will first inform the Korean church of Comenius’ theology, which is still unknown. Next, the core themes of his soteriology and Comenius’ faith, hope, and love, which are understood as the essence of the faith of salvation, will be at the center of the paper. His soteriology, to be precise, is historical and refers to the salvation faith of the early church that accepted the grace of the gospel revealed through Christ preached by the apostles. This is also the theme of Christian salvation faith that was well known to the medieval Catholic Church through Augustine, the church father of the ancient church, and Aquinas. Comenius’s soteriology, which understands faith, hope, and love as the essence of faith, is not his original creation. To be more precise, it is also the salvation faith by the gospel of Christ that the United Church of Christ to which he belonged believed and followed from the beginning. And it was a soteriology that was believed and followed from the beginning with the spirit of returning to the original early church faith of the Bible by following Christ, and Comenius, as a person after the Reformation (17th century), inherited and further developed the tradition of the faith of the United Church of Christ and made it the central system of his theology. And from the content of this soteriology, you will learn what Comenius’s thoughts were, understanding faith, hope, and love as the essence of Christian salvation faith, and in particular, you will confirm that it speaks of something related to the core theme of God’s revelation that appears throughout the Bible. And also, faith, hope, and love are understood as the essence (essentialia) of Christian salvation faith that the church of Christ must preach, teach, and enlighten to all people, and it will also be confirmed that they are the core tasks and goals of the gospel ministry through the church, including preaching and religious education. And in the last part of this article, we will discuss how Comenius understood justification in relation to faith, hope, and love. Here, we will also be able to see how the problem of the dual opposition between faith and works in justification by faith is overcome. In addition, we will introduce Comenius’s criticism of the theological tendency of the 17th century European Protestant churches to only value the relationship between faith and works and to ignore hope, and in it, we will see Comenius’ position that firmly established faith, hope, and love at the center of soteriology. I hope this article will be of some help in understanding Comenius’s soteriology, and one thing to note is that his soteriology did not adopt the method of clearly distinguishing and describing the relationship between justification and sanctification (glorification) in today’s systematic theology, but rather understood entirely as a relationship of communion between faith, hope, and love. I hope this will become a topic of discussion later.
