국문 초록

본 연구는 신천지 탈퇴자들의 신천지 경험에 내재된 삶의 의미와 실존적 구조를 심층적으로 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. Colaizzi(1978)의 분석 절차에 따라 신천지를 경험한 탈퇴자 9명을 대상으로 심층 면담을 수행하고, 참여자의 체험을 기술하였다. 분석 결과, 신천지 경험은 ‘갈망과 만남’, ‘몰입과 균열’, ‘새로운 만남과 갈망’의 세 가지 범주로 구조화되었으며, ‘이대로는 안되겠다’, ‘새로운 세상에 마음을 붙이다’, ‘내 안에 존재하는 힘의 회복’, ‘벼랑 끝에서의 헌신’, ‘마음 한 켠이 갈라지다’, ‘가위에 눌린 시간들’, ‘새로운 만남’, ‘새로운 갈망’의 8개 주제군이 도출되었다. 참여자들은 삶의 위기 속에서 신천지를 만났고, 몰입과 균열을 거쳐, 탈퇴 이후 새로운 삶의 방향성을 모색하고 있었다. 이 과정에서 탈퇴자들은 사회적 낙인과 존재에 대한 응답 부재를 경험하며, 실존적 재구성의 여정을 지속하고 있었다. 본 연구는 신천지 경험을 ‘삶의 붕괴’가 아닌 ‘삶의 구성’이라는 관점에서 해석했다는 점에서 의의를 가진다.

영문 초록

This study aims to explore the inherent meaning of life and the existential structure embedded within the experiences of Shincheonji Leavers. Following Colaizzi’s (1978) phenomenological analysis method, in-depth interviews were conducted with nine Shincheonji Leavers, and their lived experiences were described. Analysis revealed that the Shincheonji experience could be structured into three categories: “Longing and Encounter,” “Immersion and Rupture,” and “New Encounter and Renewed Longing.” Additionally, eight thematic clusters were identified: “This cannot go on,” “Attaching my heart to a new world,” “Recovery of the inner strength within me,” “Devotion on the edge of a cliff,” “A rift in a corner of my heart,” “Nightmares in Stillness,” “New Encounte,” and “New Longing.” The Shincheonji Leavers encountered Shincheonji amidst life crises, experienced immersion and rupture, and sought new directions for life after leaving. Throughout this process, they faced social stigma and a lack of existential acknowledgment from society, continuing their journey of existential reconstruction. This study is significant in interpreting the Shincheonji experience not as a “collapse of life,” but as a “construction of life.”
