질적 연구를 둘러싼 윤리적 이슈와 딜레마 탐구

국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 질적 연구에서 수반될 수 있는 윤리적 이슈와 딜레마를 조명함으로써 질적 연구에서의 윤리적 준거를 명료화하는 데 있다. 이 글은 이와 같은 연구목적을 위해 다음과 같은 연구문제를 설정하였다. “인문사회과학 분야의 연구자는 질적 연구의 수행과정에서 어떠한 윤리적 이슈와 딜레마에 봉착하는가?” 이 연구의 결과를 요약하여 제시하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 질적 연구자는 관계윤리 차원에서 연구 참여자에 대한 책임과 보호, 참여자에 대한 동의와 보상, 연구 참여자와의 역동적인 권력관계 형성이라는 이슈에 직면하였다. 둘째, 질적 연구를 수행하는 연구자는 규범윤리 차원(의무론적 접근)에서 인간존중, 선행, 공정성이라는 윤리적 가치에 따른 딜레마에 봉착하였다. 셋째, 질적 연구자는 실천윤리 차원에서 자기성찰, 반영성, 위치성 및 상황성이라는 방법적 이슈에 따른 윤리적 딜레마를 경험하였다. 넷째, 질적 연구자 혹은 저자는 학술윤리 차원에서 개념주의 및 방법주의, 연구부정 행위, 사회적 책임이라는 윤리적 이슈에 따른 딜레마를 경험하였다. 이 연구는 인문사회과학 분야의 질적 연구에서 수반되는 윤리적 이슈와 딜레마를 탐구함으로써 연구의 윤리성과 진실성을 강화하고, 생명의학이나 행동과학에 기초한 기존 IRB 심사준거를 개선할 수 있는 윤리적 준거를 제공할 것이다. 또한, 이 연구는 인문사회과학 분야의 연구자가 질적 연구의 윤리적 이슈를 심층적으로 이해하고, 연구윤리에 유연하게 대처할 수 있는 방법적 가이드라인을 제공할 것이다.

영문 초록

The aim of this article is to clarify ethical criteria in qualitative research by highlighting ethical issues and dilemmas that may accompany qualitative research. This article sets the following research question for this purpose: “What ethical issues and dilemmas do researchers in the humanities and social sciences encounter in the process of conducting qualitative research?” The results of this paper are summarized as follows. Firstly, qualitative researchers faced issues such as responsibility and protection for research participants, consent and compensation for research participation, and the formation of dynamic power relationships with research participants in terms of relational ethics. Secondly, humanities and social scientists conducting qualitative research faced dilemmas based on ethical values such as respect for persons, beneficence, and justice in terms of normative ethics (deontological approach). Thirdly, qualitative researchers experienced ethical dilemmas based on methodological issues such as self-reflection, reflexivity, positionality, and situationality in terms of practical ethics. Fourthly, qualitative researchers or authors experienced dilemmas due to ethical issues such as conceptualism and methodism, research misconduct, and social responsibility in terms of academic ethics. This study will explore the ethical issues and dilemmas accompanying qualitative research, thereby strengthening the ethics and integrity of qualitative research and providing ethical criteria that can change or improve existing IRB review standards based on the perspectives of biomedicine or behavioral science. In addition, this study will provide guidelines for researchers in the humanities and social sciences to deeply understand the ethical issues and dilemmas of qualitative research and flexibly deal with research ethics.
