이 연구는 중국 SF 코미디 영화 <21세기에서 무사히 탈출하기>를 분석함으로써, 영화의 비판적 메시지와 전달 전략, 그리고 이데올로기적 한계를 규명하고자 하였다. 이 영화는 환상적 스펙터클, 게임화 된 서사 구조, 그리고 다양한 코미디 요소를 통해자신의 허구성을 강조하면서, 검열 시스템을 우회하여 체제에 대한 급진적 비판을 은밀하게 표출한다. 그러나 영화 전반에 걸쳐 나타나는 운명론적 노력-성취 서사와 국가신자유주의 이데올로기에 대한 양가적 태도는 텍스트의 구조적 한계를 드러낸다. 영화는 ‘노력을 통해 운명을 바꿀 수 있다’는 신념과 ‘운명이 정해져 있다’는 체념을 동시에 내면화한 주인공을 통해, 신자유주의적 국민상을 이상화하면서도, 계층상승의불가능성과 삶의 무력감을 암시한다. 그러나 과도하게 순응으로 포장된 비판은 관객의 인지와 성찰을 어렵게 만들고, 결과적으로 주류 이데올로기 재생산에 기여할 우려또한 내포하고 있다.

영문 초록

This study analyzes the Chinese science fiction comedy film Escape from the 21st Century to examine its critical message, rhetorical strategies, and inherent ideological limitations. The film emphasizes its own fictionality through fantastical spectacles, gamified narrative structures, and various comedic elements, thereby subtly expressing radical critiques of the system while circumventing censorship mechanisms. However, the film’s ambivalent stance toward the deterministic narrative of effort and achievement, as well as toward the ideology of state neoliberalism, reveals its structural constraints. By presenting a protagonist who simultaneously internalizes the belief that “effort can change fate” and the resignation that “fate is predetermined”, the film idealizes the neoliberal model citizen while implicitly suggesting the impossibility of upward mobility and the pervasiveness of existential disempowerment. This critical message, however, is excessively cloaked in a conformist aesthetic, which hinders audience recognition and reflection, and ultimately risks contributing to the reproduction of dominant ideology.
