생태관광해설 활동 경험에 관한 현상학적 연구: 순천만 자연생태해설사를 중심으로

국문 초록

이 연구는 Colaizzi의 현상학적 연구방법을 사용하여 생태관광해설사들의 생태관광해설 활동 경험에 대하여 탐색해보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 순천만 자연생태해설사 23명을 대상으로 심층면담을 진행하였다. 연구결과, 84개의 구성의미를 바탕으로 31개의 주제, 11개의 주제묶음을 구성하였고 최종적으로 생태관광해설 활동 경험의 본질적 주제는 3개의 범주로 나타났다. 구체적으로 ‘생태관광해설 활동을 시작한 동기’, ‘생태관광해설 활동의 명(明)과 암(暗)’, ‘생태관광해설 활동의 삶의 의미’의 의미 있는 범주(cluster)를 도출하였다. 이를 통해 해설사들이 순천만습지에서 생태관광해설 활동을 시작한 동기는 여가시간 활용, 내재적 동기의 발현, 순천만에서 건강한 삶을 추구, 경험의 연관성으로 다양하게 나타나는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 해설사들은 생태관광해설 활동을 통해서 전문성을 향상하고 몰입의 즐거움을 통한 개인적인성장을 경험하였으나, 한편으로는 해설사로서 현장에서 직면하는 여러 어려움과 매년 선발과정을 거쳐야 하는 존재 가치상실의 불안을 겪기도 한 것으로 나타났다. 그럼에도 불구하고 이러한 과정 속에서 해설사들은 실존적 자기 관련 중요성, 타인과의 관계, 자기 초월적 가치를 통한 삶의 의미 등을 추구해가는 것을 파악할 수 있었다. 이러한 연구결과는 생태관광해설 활동을 깊이 있게 이해할 수 있는 기초 자료로 제시할 수 있을 것이다. 아울러 해설 인력 관리 및 관련 실무자들에게는 생태해설이 진행되는 순천만습지의 현장에서 어려움을 구체적으로 제시하고 이를 극복하여 해설사들이 전문성을 가지고 역할을 잘 수행하기 위한 여러 실무적 전략들을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to explore ecotourism interpreters' interpretation activity experiences by utilizing Colaizzi's phenomenological research method. To this end, in-depth interviews were conducted with 23 natural ecological interpreters in Suncheon Bay. As a result, 84 meaning units, 31 themes, and 11 theme clusters were identified, and they were synthesized into three essential categories of ecotourism interpreters' experiences. Specifically, the three categories were: motivations for engaging in ecotourism interpretation, the dual aspects of interpretation activities, and existential meanings derived from interpretation work. Ecotourism interpreters' motivations for engaging in ecotourism interpretation activities in Suncheon Bay varied, including leisure utilization, intrinsic motivation, pursuit of a healthy lifestyle, and connection to past experiences. While they enhanced professionalism and experienced personal growth through the joy of immersion, ecotourism interpreters also encountered field-related challenges and anxieties over the annual selection process, which threatened their sense of existential value. Through these experiences, ecotourism interpreters gained deeper insights into self-existence, interpersonal relationships, and self-transcendence. These findings provide fundamental insights into ecotourism interpretation activities. Furthermore, this study highlights field-specific challenges faced by interpreters in Suncheon Bay and proposes practical strategies for enhancing professionalism in interpretation services.
