현대 사회는 지식의 양이 급속히 증가함에 따라, 기존의 단편적 지식 중심 교육만으로는 복잡한 문제 해결이 어려워지고 있다. 이에 따라 창의성과 비판적 사고력의 중요성이 더욱 강조되고 있으며, 이를 함양할 수 있는 새로운 교육 접근이 요구되고 있다. 본 연구는 초등학생의 창의성과 비판적 사고력을 증진시키기 위한 방안으로 판타지 아동문학을 활용한 프로그램을 개발하고 그 효과를 검증하는 데 목적이 있다. 초등학교 4학년을 대상으로 실험집단과 통제집단을 구성하여, 실험집단에는 16차시의 판타지 아동문학 기반 수업을, 통제집단에는 일반 독후활동 수업을 적용하였다. 이후 두 집단 간 차이를 분석하기 위해 독립표본 t-검정을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 판타지 아동문학 프로그램은 창의성과 비판적 사고력의 여러 하위 요소에서 유의미한 향상을 보였으며, 특히 언어적 유창성, 도형적 사고, 독립성, 체계성 등에서 뚜렷한 효과가 확인되었다. 이러한 결과는 판타지 아동문학이 창의성과 비판적 사고력 신장에 효과적인 교육적 매체임을 보여준다. 따라서 본 프로그램은 교과 외 활동을 포함한 다양한 교육 현장에서 유용하게 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

As the volume of knowledge rapidly expands in the 21st century, traditional education focused on fragmented information is no longer sufficient to address complex societal problems. In response, creativity and critical thinking are emerging as essential competencies, necessitating new educational approaches. This study aimed to develop an instructional program utilizing fantasy children’s literature to enhance elementary students’ creative and critical thinking abilities and dispositions, and to examine its effectiveness. The program, consisting of 16 sessions, was implemented with fourth-grade students. The experimental group participated in the fantasy literature-based lessons, while the control group engaged in conventional reading activities. An independent samples t-test was conducted to compare the differences between the two groups, as the sample size met the requirements for parametric analysis. The results showed that the fantasy literature program had a significant positive effect on both creative and critical thinking, particularly in subdomains such as language fluency, flexibility, originality, and systematic reasoning. These findings suggest that fantasy literature can serve as an effective educational tool to foster higher-order thinking in elementary education. Therefore, the program is proposed as a valuable resource for use in extracurricular activities and as a complement to the regular curriculum.
