국문 초록

청소년 비행 또는 범죄는 성인 범죄 못지않게 흉포화하고 연령도 낮아지고 있다는 점에서 심각성이 배가하고 있다. 청소년들은 때때로 ‘나쁜 롤 모델’을 선택하고 이런 모델로부터 부정적으로 영향을 받을 수 있는데, 이 때문에 청소년 비행의 원인으로 흔히 ‘영웅심리’가 지목된다. 하지만 비행 또는 범죄의 모방은 자아존중에서 비롯된, 자신의 존재 가치를 입증하려는 시도라는 점에서 ‘영웅’을 ‘모방’하는 데서 비롯된 문제라기보다는 모방의 대상으로서 영웅에 대한 잘못된 인식이 낳은 결과라 할 수 있다. 다시 말해, 영웅은 그간 극단적인 힘의 숭배와 나약함에 대한 경멸을 통해 정의됨으로써 청소년의 긍정적 개성화(individuation)의 도구로 기능하지 못한 채 부정적 개성화의 도구로 역행했던 것이다. 본 연구는 영웅이 청소년 비행을 예방할 뿐만 아니라 성숙한 시민으로 성장할 수 있게 하는 효과적인 교육 수단일 수 있다는 관점에서 청소년 비행과 영웅적 행동의 관계성을 탐색한다. 이를 위해 2장에서는 청소년 비행의 현황, 원인, 대책 등에 관한 선행연구 분석을 통해 영웅의 교육적 활용이 미미하다는 점을 제시할 것이며, 3장에서는 영웅교육의 도입 필요성에 대한 이론적 배경으로 청소년 비행과 영웅적 행동의 인격 특성을 상호비교할 것이다. 그리고 마지막 4장에서는 ‘예외적 행동의 평범한 개인’이라는 변화하고 있는 현대의 영웅상(象)을 기초로 청소년 비행을 예방하기 위해 영웅교육의 필요성과 방향을 논의할 것이다.

영문 초록

Juvenile delinquency or crime is becoming as heinous as adult crimes, and considering the decreasing age, its seriousness is escalating. As youth sometimes choose ‘bad role models’ and can be negatively influenced by such models, ‘hero imitation psychology’ is commonly pointed out as a cause of juvenile delinquency. However, the imitation of their delinquency or crime results not so much from a problem of ‘imitating’ the ‘hero’ but from the misconception about heroes as objects of imitation, where the imitation itself is an attempt rooted in self-esteem to prove one’s worth. In other words, heroes have regrettably functioned as tools for negative individuation, not for positive individuation, by being defined through the worship of extreme power and contempt for weakness. This study explores the relationship between juvenile delinquency and heroism, considering the perspective that heroes can be effective educational tools not only in preventing youth delinquency but also in fostering mature citizens. In Chapter 2, the author will present an analysis of previous research on the current state, causes, and measures of youth delinquency, highlighting the limited educational use of heroes. In Chapter 3, the personality characteristics of juvenile delinquency and heroism will be compared as a theoretical background for the need to introduce hero education. Finally, in Chapter 4, the necessity and direction of hero education will be discussed as a preventive measure for youth delinquency, based on the changing modern concept of heroes as ‘ordinary individuals with exceptional behavior’.
