국문 초록

본 연구는 북한의 3대세습체제 유지와 선전선동에 사용되고 체제의 안정화와 공고화를 위해 매우 중요한 역할을 해왔던 음악이 시기별로 어떠한 정치적 특징을 지니며 체제유지와 결속에 역할을 했는지 시대별 특징을 살펴보고자 한다. 시기는 크게 제 1시기 해방이전에서 유일지배체제 수립 이전기(1926년-1971년), 제 2시기는 김일성시대(1972년-1994년), 제 3시기는 김정일 시대(1994년-2011년), 제 4시기는 김정은 시대(2012년-현재)로 나누었고, 각 시기별 음악이 갖는 역사적 배경과 시기별 음악의 특징들을 살펴보았다. 분석결과, 제 1시기의 음악은 해방직후 일제문화청산과 사회주의 사상 전파를 통한 사회주의 국가 건설의 목적으로 활용되었으며 제 2시기에는 주체사상에 기반한 유일영도체제 확립을 위한 도구로 사용됨을 알 수 있었다. 제 3시기에는 음악정치를 표방하며 경제난으로 인한 사회주의 체제붕괴의 위험으로부터 인민들을 결속시키고 국가위기 해결을 위한 역할로, 마지막으로 4시기에는 김정은 3대세습 체제의 정당성 확보 및 청년강국 건설, 유일지배체제 강화를 위한 목적으로 사용됨이 드러났다. 본 연구는 방대한 북한의 음악사를 시기별로 정리했다는 것에 의의가 있으며 추후 북한음악 관련 연구의 다양성과 확장성의 필요를 제언하고자 한다.

영문 초록

This study aims to examine the political characteristics of music, which has played a crucial role in maintaining and consolidating North Korea's dynastic succession system and propaganda efforts. It seeks to explore how music has contributed to regime preservation and cohesion across different periods. The periods are broadly divided into four phases: the first period covers the time before liberation from Japanese colonial rule and before the establishment of the single leadership system (1926-1971); the second period is the Kim Il-sung era (1972-1994); the third period is the Kim Jung-il era (1994-2011); and the fourth period is the Kim Jung-en era (2012-present). The study examines the historical background and characteristics of music from each period. The analysis reveals that music in the first period was utilized for the purpose of building a socialist state through the eradication of Japanese cultural influences and the promotion of socialist ideology. In the second period, music served as a tool for establishing the single leadership system based on Juche ideology. During the third period, music was used to unite the people and address the risks of socialist system collapse due to economic difficulties, while also playing a role in resolving national crises. Finally, in the fourth period, music was employed to affirm the legitimacy of Kim Jong-un’s third-generation dynastic succession, build a strong youth-oriented nation, and strengthen the single leadership system.
