국문 초록

최근 한국이 경제적 성장과 국제적 인지도의 상승으로 인하여 많은 외국학생들이 한국에서 공부하기 위해 유학을 오고 있다. 2024년에 교육부의 외국인 유학생 현황에 관한 발표 자료에 따르면, 2001년에 1만 1,646명에서 2024년 4월 기준으로 20만 명을 넘어섰다. 이런 추세는 중국의 경제발전이 가속화되면서 중국 유학생의 급격히 증가로 이어지고 있다. 2024년을 기준으로 한국 내 전체 유학생의 34.5%가 중국 국적이었다. 그러나 중국 및 외국 유학생의 급격히 증가는 이들에 대한 보다 체계적으로 지도와 지원을 요구하고 있다. 유학생을 유치하는 것만이 중요한 것이 아니라, 이들에게 양질의 교육프로그램과 보다 나은 교육환경을 제공하는 것 또한 매우 중요하다. 이러한 측면에서 이 연구는 유학생들을 상대로 설문조사를 실시하여 대학생활에 어떻게 적응하고 있는가, 생활하면서 겪는 어려움은 무엇인가를 조사하여 의견을 제시하고자 하였다. 그 결과 한국 학생들과 친구를 사귀면서 문화를 배우고 언어를 습득하기를 바라고 있는데 이런 욕구가 충족되지 않고 있다. 또 유학 생활을 하면서 식사와 관련한 어려움도 호소하였다. 또한 여학생 기숙사의 경우 취사 공간이 없어 어려움을 겪고 있다. 이외에도 강의문제, 여가 문제 등이 제기되었다. 이런 문제를 해결하기 위해 버디프로그램, 여학생 기숙사 취사공간 확보, 상호 언어튜터링 등의 방안을 제시하였다. 우석대학교가 국제화가 급격히 추진되는 사회에서 살아남고 발전하기 위해서는 외국 유학생들에게 맞춤형 교육, 수요자중심 교육 등이 필요하다. 우석대학교의 지속가능한 발전을 위하여 유학생 유치 및 관리를 위한 종합계획을 수립하고, 이를 대학 전체가 합심하여 체계적이고 유기적으로 추진하여야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

Due to Korea’s economic growth and rising international awareness, many foreign students are coming to study in Korea. According to the Ministry of Education’s presentation on the status of international students in 2024, the number exceeded 200,000 as of April 2024, up from 11,646 in 2001. This trend leads to a sharp increase in international students in China as the country’s economic development is accelerating. As of 2024, 34.5 percent of all international students in Korea were Chinese nationals. Due to the global economic downturn, the decline in the domestic school-age population, and the oversupply of the higher education market, Korean universities are having difficulty attracting new students, and it is becoming difficult to raise university finances. To solve this problem, the Korean government and domestic universities suggest the best strategy to attract international students to students worldwide. In this respect, this study surveyed international students to present their opinions by investigating how they adapt to college life and what difficulties they face in life. As a result, they hope to learn culture and language by making friends with Korean students, but these needs are not being satisfied. He also complained of difficulties related to meals while living abroad. In addition, female students’ dormitories are struggling because there is no cooking space. In addition, lecture issues and leisure issues were raised. To solve this problem, measures such as a buddy program, securing a cooking space for female students’ dormitories, and mutual language tutoring were proposed. For Woosuk University to survive and develop in a society where internationalization is rapidly promoted, customized and consumer-oriented education is necessary for foreign students. For the sustainable development of Woosuk University, a comprehensive plan for attracting and managing international students should be established, and the entire university should work together to promote it systematically and organically.
