국문 초록

서정주는 초기시에서 에로티시즘의 미학화를 통해 성적 충동인 리비도의 표출과 금기 위반의 쾌감을 제도와 규범 등 현실원칙의 기존 질서에 대한 저항성으로 발현한다. 서정주의 시세계에서 가장 강렬한 미학적 에너지를 분출하는 초기 시편들은 언어의 형식적 면과 내용적인 면에서 모두 문제작이라 할 만한 전위성을 나타내는데 그 중심에는 파격적인 에로티즘의 발산이 있다. 그의 첫 시집인 『화사집 』에서 에로티즘은 도착증적 욕망에 의해 구체화된다. 사전적 의미에서 도착증은 사디즘, 마조히즘, 페티시즘, 노출증, 소아성애, 수간(獸姦) 등의 이상성욕을 말하지만 프로이트적 의미에서는 성기 이외의 신체 기관을 통한 성적 쾌감, 더 나아가 신체가 아닌 것으로부터 성적 만족을 추구하는 리비도적 본능으로까지 확장된다. 도착증이 결국 규범과 질서로 문명화된 에로스에 대항하는 일종의 저항성일 때 그것은 에로티즘이 근원적으로 추구하는 금기 위반의 충동과 잇닿는다. 서정주의 초기시가 보여주는 에로티즘은 식민지 현실, 강제적으로 순치된 근대, 봉건제도의 폐습, 유교적 전통 등 현실원칙에 대한 위반만이 아니라 에로스 그 자체에 대한 위반이기도 하다. 서정주의 시적주체는 유년기 발달과정에서의 퇴행과 고착의 결과로서의 도착증과 사회적 현실원칙의 억압으로 발생된 도착증의 두 양상을 모두 보여준다. 콤플렉스의 문제가 제대로 해소되지 않은 채 성인이 된 주체는 도착증적 욕망의 표출을 통해 세상의 이분법적 규범에 저항한다. 나아가 자신의 ‘주변적 성생활’로서의 도착증을 성 대상에게도 전도하며 리비도의 사회적 확장을 시도한다. 나아가 서정주는 금기의 매혹을 보다 강화하기 위해 기독교적 세계관을 시에 차용한 후 그것을 위반하는 주체의 쾌감을 극적으로 표현하기도 한다. 그의 시에서 주체는 ‘충동-거부-단절’이 아닌 ‘충동-거부-조화’의 질서 가운데 극도의 쾌감을 체험하며 금기와 위반의 양립을 기꺼이 끌어안는다. 이러한 체계는 결국 문화적 불연속성에서 자연적 연속성으로 회귀하려는 열망으로 이어지고, 그 열망의 구체적 실천 역시 도착증적 에로티즘을 통해 이루어진다. 서정주의 초기시에서 시적주체는 도착증적 에로티즘을 통해 그 존재의 단절된 경계를 초월한 연속성을 경험하려 한다.

영문 초록

Seo Jeong-ju’s early poetry manifests eroticism aesthetically, expressing libido-driven sexual impulses and the pleasure derived from transgressing taboos as a form of resistance against established institutions and social norms. His early works, characterized by intense aesthetic energy, exhibit experimental qualities both in form and content, primarily driven by provocative eroticism. In his first poetry collection, Hwasajip, eroticism is embodied through perverse desires. Traditionally, perversion includes atypical sexual desires such as sadism, masochism, fetishism, exhibitionism, pedophilia, and bestiality. However, from a Freudian perspective, it extends further, encompassing sexual pleasure derived from non-genital body parts or even non-bodily sources. When such perversion is perceived as resistance against culturally normalized eros bound by societal rules, it aligns closely with eroticism’s fundamental impulse to violate taboos. The eroticism depicted in Seo Jeong-ju’s early poetry thus represents transgression not only against colonial realities, forcibly domesticated modernity, feudal traditions, and Confucian norms but also against eros itself. Seo’s poetic subjects demonstrate two types of perversion: one arising from regression and fixation during childhood development, and another stemming from repression by social reality. Subjects who mature without resolving their internal complexes resist binary social norms through expressions of perverse desire. Moreover, they project their peripheral sexuality onto sexual objects, thus socially expanding their libido. Seo further intensifies the allure of the forbidden by incorporating and subsequently violating Christian worldviews in his poetry, dramatically expressing the subject’s pleasure in such transgression. His poetic subjects experience extreme pleasure within a structure of ‘impulse-rejection-harmony’ rather than ‘impulse-rejection-discontinuity,’ willingly embracing the coexistence of taboo and violation. Ultimately, this framework points toward a longing to revert from cultural discontinuity to natural continuity, actualized specifically through perverse eroticism. In Seo Jeong-ju’s early poetry, poetic subjects seek to transcend their fragmented existential boundaries through experiences of perverse erotic continuity.
